This book is a sequel, though you don't need to have read the first to figure it out. The hero, a Vietnam vet who has been on the run, decides to go back and clean up the mess he left in L.A. with the help of an attractive bounty hunter. From there, he discovers multiple crimes and frameups which leave him desperately trying to clear his name. The book is a potboiler, but with surprisingly few spots of slop. The pace is relatively quick, slowed by some maudlin romance here and there, and the details are well chosen with an air of authenticity. The author fails to keep the plot twists too quiet, and reveals clues in chunks instead of well spread out, but overall, this was a fun read for those who enjoy the "talented vet" of, say, David Morrell, or early Ludlum (without Ludlum's politics). Some violence, some sex, lots of driving.

I only read about 45 pages of the sample before deciding not to download the entire book, so maybe it improved later, but it didn't look like it was going to. The characters are fairly solid and the plot moves along, so that was good. However the style kept sliding around between action thriller and romance novel ("any girl would love to run her fingers through his curly black hair"???) Spelling and grammatical errors were really jarring (an ominous businessman called a "trucking magnet.") And the characters were introduced without a lot of clarification of relationships. None of these are problems that a good editor wouldn't have helped with. Sorry. I couldn't take any more.

A good read. I appreciated that there was not a lot of crude-ness used to tell the story, even though the story was fairly gritty. I'm going to look for more by this author.

149 pages long and a whole lot of suspense and mystery. Brad is a very believable character and brings it out very well. I highly recommend this book if you like thrillers. The romantic part of the story could have been brought out a little more, again very real. Must read.

Not sure if I read the rough draft. Very hard to follow. Started to hilight misspelled words, but just wanted to finish the read. Story line was good but wouldn't recommend it.

This was a good story, knew the culprit the first time he was introduced. The why's and wherefore's is what kept the pages turning. Decent character development, and there really weren't any dead spots. All in all it was a good read. I would recommend this to those who want something light and not too intense. A good rainy Sunday book. I will check out more from this author he did good.

I really enjoyed this book. It had all the right intrigue with a little bit of romance brought in. I was very pleased that the romantic aspect of this book did not draw center stage and that it was addressed very tactfully. I hate when my murder mystery reads all of a sudden become my grandmother's dime store novels. I highly recommend this book to those who love action & suspense.

Difficult to read, lots of typos, clearly a draft

It has a nice story line. I wondered about it being a sequel also. If it is, it's easy enough to follow without reading the first book. Enjoy.

It only took me three days to read. Slow start, but very nice read starting at chapter 2.

While i agree with others about the grammer and typo errors, the story does pick up and start to make sense. I enjoyed this book. This is not my usual choice of genre, but I am glad I stuck with it. Give it a chance. You may find it to be a pleasant surprise.

Like some other reviewers, i thought this was a draft and needed an editor. I read one page 3times wondering who this new character was only to realixe it was the same character just with the wrong name. The storyline really seemed to drag. I couldnt bear the thought of trying to get through 400 pages.

Why is it all mystery writers feel they must use such formulaic story lines? Break oit of the box! Work those brain cells and give me an original, exciting page turner, where I can mot guess the killer till the evry end!

I would not recommend this book. This book is extremely hard to read and follow. I have put it down and picked it back up several times but just cant get into it. It started off pretty well but thats about it. The characters are presented in a way that makes you feel like you missed something. The characters seem to be just thrown in the story and its up to me to figure them out.

A quick read, the story can become a bit implausible at times by the main character's invincibility, but all in all, I was entertained and pleasantly satisfied with the quality for the price. Definitely worth a look for those seeking a suspenseful distraction.

This book was alright. I had a hard time getting interested in this book and had to put it down a few times. Once I was able to get interested though, it was alright.

Story was ok - something different than I usually read and I enjoyed the change. But, grammatical errors distracted from the book...

I LOVE suspensful books like this one tries to be. It started off kind of creatively by not really introducing the characters but didn't make up for it later. I was REALLY confused throughout the entire book and kept reading to see if I would get unconfused. Never really happened. Now I wish I could figure out how to delete it off my Nook. Glad it was free.

The author spins a great tale, good characters, plot moves along...BUT this has got to be a rough first draft or the editor should be shot! So bad in some parts it makes no sense.
