Publishers Weekly

In this first in a trilogy Ross is developing on ex-Special Forces men reacclimating to civilian life, ex-SEAL Zach Tremayne returns to his South Carolina small town to try to forget the horrors of the Iraq War. Sabrina Swann has returned to recover from a terrorist attack on the Italian hotel where she was waitressing. As the fragile pair rekindle their attraction from youth, a serial killer stalks the serene community, torturing and murdering women and closing in on Sabrina. While Ross has a good handle on the intricacies of smalltown life, the shared PTSD of her protagonists doesn't make for the easiest of romances, and Tremayne's trauma disappears when it is no longer convenient to the story. I read this on my nook which made it over 1200 pages. If this book wouldnt of had 600 pages of total blah blah blah, it would of been a good read. It had a good plot that was never totally focused on, and kept jumping around. It didnt even focus on the romance it was so busy with TMI.

I am new to Ross's books, and read this one because I gravitate to stories including military bad boys. After reading her Blue Bayou series, I had high hopes for this group of books. It was slow at times, but I am fairly glad I stuck with it toward the end. I hope the following books in the series won't take so much time jumping around. Not a bad read, but not one of my favorites. If you are into military bad boys, you should definitely check out Cindy Gerard's Bodyguards and Black Ops series.

It was a fun murder mystery that kept me guessing until the last few chapters. I enjoyed the romance between Zachary and Sabrina, but found it odd that as soon as Zachary fell in love his PTSD seemed to disappear. I also thought that there was a lot of unneeded info on characters that you wouldn't see again. Overall, a good story and I'll definitely read other books in this series.
