New Adult Contemporary Romance

After leaving high school, with a hard won diploma and the title of most likely to break hearts, Alexander “Nix” Pierce has left his wild, out of control years mostly behind him. A small inheritance from his grandfather has given him the funds to open up his tattoo shop, Freefall, and he has started to pull his life together. Aside from trying to keep his best friend, Dray, from killing himself in the fight ring, and his slight obsession with a pin-up model he’s never met, Nix’s life is going smoothly . . . until Scotlyn James, the object of his obsession, walks into his shop.

Ever since a tragic accident killed her family and left her alone in the world, Scotlyn James hasn’t spoken one word. Up until now she didn’t care that she had no way of talking to people. Her awful aunt would never have listened, and Lincoln Hammond the arrogant, selfish man who pulled her from the streets of Los Angeles wouldn’t hear her words if she could speak. But when Lincoln insists she get a tattoo to cover up a scar on her side, Scotlyn meets the artist, Nix Pierce. And now she longs for her voice. Now she has found someone who will hear her.

    An actual review

I love Tess Oliver's writing style. Her characters have a strong voice...the suspense is a bit weak and the ending to it is a bit abrupt. ..as is the overall ending to the book. I liked Nix a ton, his voice and personality shone through. Why four stars? The ending. It hit its peak and bam over with very little to no more development or idea of what happens next with any of the characters. It's just over, leaving me feeling a bit robbed. However, it's still a really good book at over 450 pages. Finished it in about three hours. Worth the time and .99 cents

    Loved it...

I get tired of reading the same old romance novels but this one had more to offer than desciptions of genitalia and how many orgasms one can achieve in one day. I appreciate that the author made the story pretty real and i loved the fact that Scotlyn cannot speak, it really added to her character building and made her interesting. Buy this...you will not be disappointed!

    FINALLY!! An original story!!

This is the first book I have read by Tess Oliver and all I could think when I finished reading it was 'Oh, so that is what a five star book is like.' I am tempted to go back and remove a star from all of my previous reviews (except for my beloved Outlander of course). I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story. I forced myself to stop reading several times just so that I could draw out the process of reading this book, that is how much I liked it.

First, the cover. Yum! Need I say more? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Second, love the characters. Nix had a rough childhood but was mild compared to what Scotlyn had been through (love her name by the way, and the meaning behind it... too sweet). So, Scotlyn is mute but Nix has no trouble understanding her and treating her like a human being. The depth of these characters made me feel like they were real people just sitting in front of me telling their story, and really that is the highest praise I can give to a book. I can picture each one of them (even the supporting characters) in my mind like they were long lost friends.

I was curious how the author was going to write the dialog between Nix and Scotlyn and I was worried it would be annoying. I could not have been more wrong.

It was so refreshing to read a book that did not feel like it was created from a formula. And even though their connection was fast it did not feel like insta-love, more like insta-caring.

Tess Oliver is now an author the I will read without hesitation and I can only say that about a handful of authors.

    Well done!

    OKAY READ

I really enjoyed this book. It takes alittle while for it to really get going and the story line is good but not great.. There is no laugh out loud moments in this story. There are plenty of crying moments though. There's no sexy sex scenes either. So if your looking for alittle erotica then this is not for you. I don't know if I recommend this book or not. It's a really cute love story but thats about it.

    Good

I liked this book. I liked the characters. They were very well developed. The story seemed a bit choppy at times and not quite fleshed out enough. Part of me wanted the story to just end and then when it did, it was rushed and incomplete. Took some getting used to the writers style of every other chapter in his and hers first person point of view.

Although the plot is pretty obvious, it's a good enough easy read and keeps you interested. I really liked this book and recommend it.

    Great story

I was very doubtful about reading this book, the cover & tatoos - not me - but I loved this book, all 491 pages of it. Very hard to put down to eat. Loved all 3 of the guys, Dray, Clutch, & Nix. Too quick an end but still loved it. GJRA

Was a very exciting read, full of thrills and suspense but no sex. This is a 'G' rated book where sex was left to your imagination. I think my 13 year old would like this.

    Intriguing start, abrupt end

I liked the characters but the plot is fairly predictable in that I forsee a couple more books seeding from this. There was enough to keep me reading and while this book did end rather abruptly, as if the author felt that the book was long enough and time to finish, I did try another of her books and ended up with a disappointing trilogy. For the cost, a decent book.
