I'm really glad I decided to try this book. I have been freezer cooking for years in one form or another, but I have never been able to get myself well organized. This book has changed all of that. In their easy to follow 5 Step Plan they take you from choosing your recipes and planning your cooking day to organizing your freezer. Their recipes are multiplied out in easy-to-follow tables and worksheets are provided to take you step-by-step through the process. They even show you how to adapt your own recipes. It is a good idea when you start to try each recipe to see if you like it before making multiple dishes. You don't want to end up with 3 dishes you don't like! But I have to admit I haven't wasted any dishes yet. I have made a few minor adjustments to meet our tastes (we like spicy food), and we tend to cook low fat meals, but they offer lots of low-fat options for most recipes. I personally don't have time to cook for a whole day, but they offer many suggestions, such as multiplying each nightly meal, which I usually do, and mini-sessions which are great for when you find a good meat sale. This book is very practical, nothing fancy, but very useful.
This book was so helpful! My husband and I have been freezer cooking for about 6 months and were looking for more recipes. This book is full of great recipes that my two toddlers will even eat! Some of the recipes can be high in fat but almost every one comes with a lighter version to cut down fat and calories. (use light cottage cheese, leaner ground beef, etc.) If you want to save time, money, and reduce stress you need this book!
I just finished my 1st month of cooking using The Freezer Cooking Manual from 30 Day Gourmet. The book lays out everything in detail from start to finish. There are tons of worksheets that make it easier to accomplish your goals, plus multiple charts that help with conversions. The recipes are delicious and you get access to their members only area of the 30 day gourmet website with the purchase of this book. I'm not that great at cooking, but even I couldn't mess this up. I already have month 2 planned out! To be able to spend 1 weekend cooking, and the rest of the month relaxing and not doing dishes or stressing out about what to have for dinner (at 5pm) is a relief! Now when my husband or kids say 'Whats for dinner?' I already have delicious meals on hand ready to go!
