Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
Kelly, a columnist for the New Jersey-based newspaper, the Record, has put together a collection of his columns, the majority from the 1990s and some from the 1980s. The essays are grouped in broad categories, from "Faces" to "Wonders," and each is prefaced by a note about the subject. Interestingly, they are not about the big news events of the day but "small stories," such as the death of a commuter/waitress in New York, the memorials to a woman Vietnam vet, and the story of Red Mascara, who has been trying for years to get New Jersey to adopt a state song that he wrote. Charming and sometimes heartbreaking, Kelly's rather short pieces are easy to read and pleasant to dip into when looking for a quick diversion. Kelly's writing is even and the topics broad enough to appeal to a wide audience. Recommended for public libraries.--Lisa J. Cihlar, Monroe P.L., WI Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
