Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Expensive equipment is not needed to create custom stationary, printed clothing, or decorative home accents. Learn how to use found items like cookie cutters, lace, and buttons to create printed gift cards, lampshades, and pillows! With helpful sections on building your printmaking kit and color mixing, you'll find that most of your tools and supplies are items you already have on-hand. We loved the Ginkgo Leaf Shade, Button Boots, and Lacey Casey Pillowcase."

Leech (Scissors, Paper, Craft) was drawn to printmaking during her time in art school, and found that the techniques she learned are transferrable to the home crafter—with a few minor alterations. Rather than traditional lino or rubber blocks, Leech's technique, which she has dubbed "lazy lino," uses craft foam as the carving medium. Craft foam is less expensive and easier to carve than traditional printmaking materials, which simplifies the process. She also presents information about using household objects, such as buttons, silverware, feathers, and textiles, as carriers for printing ink. The projects are fairly simple and tend toward an Etsy-quirky style, with a nice variety of home decor and apparel and accessory ideas. VERDICT Leech's no-fuss approach, along with the liberal use of found objects and "lazy lino," make this a nice introduction for home crafters who would like to give printmaking a try.
