Dubrawsky (Color Your Cloth: A Quilter's Guide to Dyeing and Patterning Fabric) begins with a brief, informative description of quilting techniques, from cutting to piecing to hand- and machine-quilting, then provides a gallery of projects with step-by-step directions. Dubrawsky's aesthetic is colorful and vintage-inspired, with fun and functional designs. Meet the Author

Malka Dubrawsky is a fiber artist whose work has been shown in juried exhibitions including Quilt National and Visions. In addition to a successful Etsy shop and popular A Stitch in Dye blog, Malka contributes to Stitch, Sew Hip, and Quilting Arts magazines. She is the author of Color Your Cloth, and her work has also appeared in Fiberarts: Design Book, Sweater Surgery, Quilts, Baby!, Pretty Little Pillows, and Pretty Little Mini Quilts. Malka is based in Austin, Texas.

    Empowered me to quilt again!

    My first quilt was terrible. Absolute hot mess! The colors and textures were beautiful, but the actual construction of the piece was completely shoddy. I could get into details, but why bore you?

    Anyway, since then I've been afraid of even considering quilting anything, afraid to waste the fabric on something poorly executed. But, after seeing me pour over blogs of beautiful quilts, my husband bought me Fresh Quilting. (True, I had asked for it explicitly, but he still did it!)

    I poured over the book, and finished it in one night after the baby went to bed. Reading the book with its emphasis on fearlessness, and the incredible close ups of sometimes perfectly imperfect stitching, allowed me to finally let go and just DO IT already!

    Malka's writing and quilting is beautiful and attainable, with projects ranging from easy to more complex, but her enthusiasm and encouragement makes everything sound SO EASY! Also, I love her use of solids, and improvisational piecing and quilting...this is a great book for the younger (or young at heart) crowd that want to create without copying Grandma's style.
