    Freshman Quaterback by Claire Bee

State University was losing 2-0 against A&M! Two seconds to go! Time for one more play! Chip Hilton guaged the distance and the angle and hesitated. Twenty-eight yards to the goal line...ten more to the crossbar...plus height...snow on the ground and...with a sneaker! Chip gave it all he had and kicked the ball with all the power that desperation and hope and prayer can give a fellow. Freshman Quarterback is one book of many in the Chip Hilton series. I found out about these books from my Father, who read the series when he was my age. Chip Hilton is a freshman quaterback at State University. Chip and all of his friends from Valley Falls were not on scholarships at their in-state school. The Booster club, however, provided full scholarships for the out-of-state stars. From the beginning, Chip realized he would not be treated fairly while competing against the scholarship players. Chip knew if he gave his best effort, his talent would earn him respect in the end. In this book, I liked the football parts the best, but I did not like the off the field parts. The lesson I learned from this book was to never complain or whine, but keep on trying your best and good things will work out in the end. This is a great book for middle school boys who like sports. I rate this book an 8.5 out of 10 because it is exciting. Greer McCord, 6th grade

Valley Falls Five Encounter Football Favoritism

Chip Hilton; along with fellow Valley Falls athletes Biggie Cohen, Speed Morris, Soapy Smith, and Red Schwartz; expected to find participation on the State University Freshman Football team based on playing and athletic ability. They were all in for a major surprise when they joined the team in summer camp. Positions and playing time were given to the athletes with Boosters; they were not afforded a fair opportunity to compete. FRESHMAN QUARTERBACK tells how Chip and his friends fare in their quest to be treated equitably. We also get to observe their travails as college freshmen. This combination of football and college life provides us a chance to observe sportmanship, team play, and comaraderie on the college campus. This book, the ninth in the Chip Hilton Sports Series, is one of Coach Clair Bee's best. This newly updated and modernized version is one of the finest entries in this important series. Chip has always been able to combat his opponents through fair play and a charitable spirit. Will the problems encountered at State University prove too much for him. This book is recommended for any person who is a sports fan. Young readers will enjoy meeting Chip and the rest of his friends. The Chip Hilton Sports Series, long out of print, provides an excellent chance for readers of all ages to meet one of fiction's greatest characters. This book is highly recommended.

    Freshman Quarterback

This was one of the best books Clair Bee has written. It is a fun-filled book full of great adventure and sarcasim. I especially like the parts when Chip and his friends beat the Stars at the football games. All these books by Clair Bee are educational and exciting.
