Overview

The story of a young heiress's initiation into the dark society of the Chicagoland Vampires continues?

Ten months after vampires revealed their existence to the mortals of Chicago, they're enjoying a celebrity status usually reserved for the Hollywood elite. But should people learn about the Raves-mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle-the citizens will start sharpening their stakes.

So now it's up to the new vampire Merit to reconnect with her upper class family and act as liaison between humans and bloodsuckers, and keep the more unsavory aspects of the vampire lifestyle out of the media. But someone doesn't want peace between them-someone with an ancient grudge?

    Awesome new series!

I've read many vampire books, and this is another original and thrilling ride. Merit has just been turned into a vampire without her consent. Ethan says he saved her life by turning her. She hates him for turning her, but can't resist him at the same time. This book has murder mysteries, gorgeous vampires, cute girlfriends, sassy dialog and sexual intrigue.

    READ THIS BOOK!

I would not have read this book based on the cover if it had not been highly recommended to me, I am so glad I did. The characters in this series are great and you get pulled in. I can't wait for the next book. The chemistry between Ethan and Merit is amazing. I haven't loved a vamp this much since Eric. I have not met anyone who read this book who didn't love it. READ IT!

    Great Follow-up!

I had read the first book-Some Girls Bite. I was waiting for the second. I am happy to say I was not dissapointed. Celina was released from vampire prison and back to stir up trouble any way she can. It was an interesting side step-bringing in werewolves. I am already looking toward the next book with that comment made by the AJAX about them being RELATED!!!

    A good read

Chloe Neill's series is a fun read, just catchy enough to keep my attention. The plot is infused with a little bit of everything: mystery and intrigue, romantic tension and triangles, and a sassy attitude from the main character. The only thing lacking might be a bit more word exploration, although she does do some. All in all, a good read - I'm looking forward to the next installment.

    Almost perfect

I really like this series so far. It manages to avoid some of the expected cliches and melodrama that usually goes with the vampire genre. I especially love the handling of Ethan and Merit. The only issue I had was that the details of the plot surrounding Jaime and his family were a little vague and left a lot of questions. Also, the raves were never really dealt with here. My interest is definitely peaked by all the foreshadowing and I'm really looking forward to what comes next.

    Good, solid 2nd book

With all the vampire/paranormal books out there, it's nice to find characters that stand out and are a bit different. This is a worthy second book in the series although not as much a "grabber" as the first book. I am looking forward to the next book, especially after the teaser ending of this one

The second Chicagoland vampire tale is super urban fantasy

Ten months have passed since the vampires came out of the closet and revealed themselves to humanity. New to the biting night life, upper class Merit struggles with her bite and her position as sentinel of the House of Cadogan; one of the three vampire "Houses" in Chicago. However, those are minor problems compared to her constant disputes with the dude who changed her, four century old master vampire Ethan Sullivan.

Currently, vampires are riding a wave of good will media. However, rumors fly that wannabe tabloid reporter Jamie Breckenridge has learned about Raves in which humans serve up blood like a cocktail hour. Merit knows him as his family and hers (human that is) travel in the same elitist circle. Merit needs to persuade ambitious Jamie to drop the story before the humans go for blood.

The second Chicagoland vampire tale (see SOME GIRLS BITE) is super urban fantasy starring a tyro bloodsucker who continues to have major relationships with mortal and vampires; Merit still connects (loose definition) with her social climbing parents and other mortal family members and obviously with her new vampire family. Fans will appreciate Merit's efforts to balance her two teetering worlds summed up simply by TGIFNB (Thank God it's Friday Night Bites).

Originally on my book blog. I was blown away by the first book

    Originally on my book blog.

I was blown away by the first book in this series, immediately fell in love with Merit, Mallory, Catcher, Ethan, and Morgan, and was amazed by the intricate plot. This second book did not disappoint. In fact, I literally have to buy the third book tomorrow. It left me on a huge cliffhanger. Not okay.

One of the things I love most about this series, is the writing style. Since it is told in first person from Merit’s point of view, we get all of the snark and sarcasm. Two things which I highly admire in kick ass females. And Merit is bringing it all. This book picks up where the last one leaves off. She is about to move into Cadogan House to fully take up her position as Sentinel and play nice with Ethan.

Alright, I have to admit. While I was not a fan of the love/hate relationship between Merit and Ethan in the first book, I love how their relationship is evolving in this one. In this book, Merit is coming to terms with the fact that yeah, she wasn’t able to give consent, and Ethan wanted to save her. She is coming to terms with being a vampire and she is realizing that she is pretty bad ass. However, all is not going as great as she would want it. All of her relationships are suffering. She and Mal no longer live together, She and Ethan can’t seem to get over this weird, intense connection, and she and Morgan, the Master of the Narvarre House, is just working as well as he wants it too.

On top of this drama, Merit has to deal with Ethan’s plan of integration. She left her social obligations to her family along time ago. But in order to get information and such, Ethan forces her back in. All sorts of chaos ensues. Her father is a self-serving bastard, as always. Her mother is gossipy. And her ex-boyfriend seems to want to rip her throat out.

In Friday Night Bites, we also get to see more of the shifters. In the first book, we are introduced to only one, Jeff, who is absolutley precious, and others are just mentioned. But by the end of this book, it is obvious that shifters are playing a bigger role here, which I believe the third book will pick up on.

If you have not read this series yet, you need to! It is absolutely brilliant and I dare say I loved the second book better than the first. The characters are all evolving into their own worlds, Merit as a vamp and Mallory as a sorcerer. The steaminess and tension is very well paired with mystery and plotweaving. I highly recommend this book to all urban fantasy lovers.

A simply amazing don't miss read for Urban Fantasy Series fans!!!

I don't usually post reviews, but this is such an amazing series, I just can't help myself! Without a doubt, Chloe Neill's new Chicagoland Vampires series is easily 1 of the best I've read to date!!! Her writing style seemlessly blends action, wit, creative world building, great descriptions of all manner of supernatural characters, & really surprising plot twists that kept me from putting these books down until I had finished the entire series.

Also, (IMHO) altho some romantic intrigue & tension is integral to the story, happily this series does not contain pages & pages & pages of frequent, boringly repetitive, ridiculously described, explicit sexual encounters some authors in this genre seem to over-rely on as filler when they might do better using those pages fleshing out their characters, worlds, & storyline. But maybe I'm the only 1 that thinks that...

Anyway, probably needless to say...but I can hardly wait for the next book in this series!

    Very funny vampire read

I really enjoyed Some Girls Bite, so it was no shocker that I enjoyed the second book in Merit's story just as much. The author does a great job creating Merit's world and her struggles of adjusting with not only being a new vampire but Sentinel as well, which is like the bodyguard of all bodyguards for the Cadogan house. On top of that at the beginning of the book she moves out of her house which she shared with her best friend Mallory and Mallory's boyfriend, Catcher and moves into Cadogan house. Which is a huge deal since she has some sexual and awkward tension with her master and head of the house, Ethan.

I loved the tension between Ethan and Merit but I also love the growing attraction between Morgan and Merit. Is it really possible to be rooting for two guys at one time? I will admit that the whole love triangle aspect is sort of getting over played but with this story it works. You have to read the first book to figure out how this love triangle actually came to exist in the first place. Sorry folks, no freebies here!

The author wrote Ethan so well that you can tell that he is struggling with his feeling for Merit. He will give her a compliment and then flip a switch and turn all Master and and act as if he has more important things to do and then dismisses her from his presence. But those rare moments where he lets his emotions show a little bit, you really cannot help but feel for the guy. I mean, he is the Master of the Cadogan house. He really isn't "friends" with anyone. They all view him as the boss and that is it, so of course the poor guy is lonely.

Which brings us to Merit. She is not like anyone else in the house. She has not only challenged the Master once before but continues to argue with him, which is a big no-no when it comes to Master-subordinate relations. However, that is also why I think Ethan likes her, because she isn't submissive. She is strong headed and has an opinion of her own.

Another aspect that I liked about the story was the relationship between Catcher, Mallory and Merit. It is exactly what you would think of when it comes to two best friends and a guy. My favorite part to explain this is when Merit goes to their house for a dinner and Mallory and Catcher are arguing about how many varieties of lotion Mallory has. The whole thing rang so true to a real life argument that it had me laughing out loud.
Mallory- "Our Mr. Bell is in denial about certain issues."
Catcher- "It's lotion, Mallory, for God's sake."
    Merit- "Lotion?"
Catcher- "She has, like, fourteen different kinds of lotion." He had trouble getting out the words, his shock and chagrin at Mallory's moisturizer stockpile apparently that intense.
    Mallory- "Tell him."
Merit- "Women moisturize. Different lotions for different body parts, different scents for different occasions."
Mallory- "Different thicknesses for different seasons. It's pretty complicated actually."
Catcher- "It's lotion. I'm pretty sure science has advanced to the point that you can buy a single bottle that will take care of all that."
    Merit- "Missing the point."
Mallory- "He's missing the point. You're totally missing the point."
Catcher- "You two would agree that the w

    This series rocks!

I have looked high and low for another series to keep my interest like Anita Blake and Rachel Morgan. I am on book 4 and can't wait for the next to arrive in stores. Merit is hot and feisty and very worth the read. Fast paced and fun. Start at number one and enjoy the whole series!

    Great New Series!

This is the 2nd book in the series and it's just as good as the first. I read this within a day and am anxiously awaiting the 3rd book! Overall its a great series and will reel you in. Merit (the main character) is 28 but it's written almost as if she's only a teen so i hope Chloe Neill spices up her character in the next book.

So, I stumbled upon this series and am thrilled to say it was a superb find. I read the first two books in a day and half and can't wait until the next installment is released in July. If you love urban fantasy, the likes of vampires, witches, shifters and the rest you'll love these books. I love the characters and the writing was perfect. Detailed enough to hold interest without over explanations. I'm really excited about this series!
