Overview

After five years of tracking and capturing spies on English soil, Philip Jonquil, Earl of Lampton, is in pursuit of his last quarry. But at a traveler's inn, he encounters an unexpected and far more maddening foe: Sorrel Kendrick, a young lady who is strikingly pretty, shockingly outspoken, and entirely unimpressed with him. Indeed, Sorrel cannot believe the nerve of this gentleman, who rudely accuses her of theft and insults her feminine dignity. Doubly annoyed when they both end up at a party hosted by mutual friends, Philip and Sorrel privately declare war on one another. But Philip's tactics, which range from flirting to indifference, soon backfire as he finds himself reluctantly enjoying Sorrel's company; and, much to her dismay, Sorrel finds Philip's odd manner to be increasingly endearing. In the midst of this waning war and growing attraction, Philip catches wind of the French spy he's been tracking, and Sorrel inadvertently stumbles upon a crucial piece of the puzzle, making her indispensable to the mission. But can two proud hearts negotiate a ceasefire when cooperation matters most?

This is the first Sarah Eden book I've read and I'm hooked!!! The main characters: Philip and Sorrel are so easy to relate to with the way they struggle with family problems and finding love. They both have these walls up; Philip because he's a spy and can't let anyone really get to know him; and Sorrel who's suffered an injury leaving her partially crippled and doesn't believe a man would be interested in her. I loved their verbal duals and I know this is strange to say about a book, but they had really great Chemistry between the two of them. I highly, highly, recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet, Romantic story:)

This was such great book! Sarah Eden really has a talent -not only with the plot but with the characters and their dialogue -simply amazing! This book had some action and adventure, romance (of course), and a witty dialogue to keep you laughing. You will LOVE this book of hers. I would recommend first reading "The Kiss of a Stranger" as it first introduces Philip while you read all about Lord and Lady Cavratt (who also play roles in this new book). If you haven' already, READ more of Sarah Eden's books -you will love them!

Really enjoyed this. Interesting characters, writing of a much higher standard than the average Reeny (though not a Heyer and certainly not an Austen), and though the plot and actions tettered frequently into to the unbelievable/unrealistic, there were some of the best efforts I've seen to be true to the period and the overall effect was very refreshing and engossing. Also, completely clean - nothing more than kisses, hand holding and fond cheek caresses. Sorrel is one of the most unique and interesting heroines I've encutered in a long time. Lord Jonquil, however, is based very strongly on the Scarlett Pimpernell. As always, the writing has a lovely blend of humor and tenderness.
