Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Friendship is very special. Set in the context of the Peter Rabbit story and its animal characters, find out about special things that makes friends so dear like giggling, sharing, and hugging moments. Read the simple lines of text that reveal the heartfelt times with friends. The patterned text begins with "Friends are for..." and is completed with different facets of friendship. In one illustration about friends sharing, there are three rabbits sharing a large bowl of berries. These rabbits appear to be Peter's siblings, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail. The final layout ends with Peter Rabbit holding a red card with a flap to open in order to finish the message which emphasizes the lasting quality of friendship. The colors are muted and the pictures are simple. Subtle shades help to define the light and shadows of the items in the pictures. This book is part of the "Peter Rabbit Naturally Better" series which try to be sensitive to making books that are respectful of the environment. Young children will probably enjoy the simplicity of the text and pictures as they begin to learn about friendship. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
