School Library Journal - School Library Journal
PreS-- In these companion books, a single gerund in large type accompanies each spread: Babies shows ``Eating, Playing, Singing, Hugging''; Friends shows ``Drawing, Laughing, Jumping, Reading.'' The children depicted are busy and active, engaged entirely in their own affairs (no adults present), alone or in groups. Despite the title of one book, no infants appear; all the children are at the toddler stage or older. The illustrations, in watercolors and colored pencil, are fresh, attractive, and energetic. They are filled with familiar, endearing details that children will recognize. Both books have a good balance of gender and ethnic mixes, and the variety of activities depicted does justice to children's capabilities. --Liza Bliss, Worcester Pub . Lib . , MA
