Overview

Sarah Anderson has found her dream job: Clerk of Court for the District of Columbia Night Court. Dream job, that is, until she's attacked in the open courtroom by a vampire defendant. And until she's forced to take self-defense lessons from her boss, the enigmatic vampire James Morton. And until she learns that she can't share the truth about any of that with her best friend, Allison Ward - even over delectable cupcakes from the Cake Walk bakery.

Soon, Sarah is surrounded by vampires, griffins, and sprites - all members of a secret supernatural court. And when a deceptively easy-going reporter starts to ask questions, Sarah wonders just what answers she is supposed to give....

Will Sarah be able to create order in the court?

Meet the Author

Mindy Klasky learned to read when her parents shoved a book in her hands and told her she could travel anywhere in the world through stories. She never forgot that advice.

Mindy's travels took her through multiple careers - from litigator to librarian to full-time writer. Mindy's travels have also taken her through various literary genres for readers of all ages - from traditional fantasy to paranormal chick-lit to category romance, from middle-grade to young adult to adult.

In her spare time, Mindy knits, quilts, and tries to tame her endless to-be-read shelf. Her husband and cats do their best to fill the leftover minutes.

I have read the Jane Madison series and really enjoyed them, so I thought why not try another by Mindy Klasky. Well, I'm glad I did, as far as I'm concerned she's got another hit with this one. I will read ALL her books, have started on the "Wish" series and it looks like they're going to be just as good. I've told my friends curl up and READ these books and they do!!!!! Please keep sharing your talent with the rest of us. It's fun to get away for awhile with your books. Thanks again, Stef

I thoroughly loved this book and would love a long series based on this. :) The characters were really interesting, and there was a neat balance between creepiness and amusing moments/comments. It teases at romance, but keeps it light and wishing for more. I'm a new fan of this author now!

I love discovering a new author or series, and this one doesn't disappoint! It's a nonstop action ride that kept me reading all morning. Cupcake tarot is adorable...

Mindy doesn't fail to deliver a quirky vampire tale. She's successful at creating characters that are funny, awkward and lovable. This book delivers just that with a few spooky moments to boot. My favorite still remains "witchcraft and the single girl" but I am an all around Klasky fan.

A fun read; a lighter paranormal adventure with more romantic-interest than romance or sex. Atmosphere does put me in mind of the Night Court sitcom. I enjoyed it. Towards end some more interesting world-building hinting at potential sequels. Not particularly the most original world building and rather mixing the folklore/myths/legends but few paranormal books/series do nowadays. (The worst "violence," a single attack that court officers fight off, is in opening chapter; this isn't for the diehard thriller/mystery/blood-and-gore fans or readers looking for explicit/out-there sex scenes)
