Overview

In 1957, Harper published its first I Can Read title, Little Bear, written by Else Holmelund Minarik and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Large type, simple vocabulary, chapter-like divisions, and decorative pictures made Little Bear perfect for emerging readers—they could read the story comfortably and not feel overwhelmed by the text. Following suit came such classics as Peggy Parish's Amelia Bedelia series, Lillian Hoban's books about Arthur the monkey, and Syd Hoff's popular Danny and the Dinosaur. Many books in this series are special in the depth of emotion evoked - Little Bear, the Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel, and Daniel’s Duck by Clyde Bulla, to name a few - and all are enjoyed by children of all ages. Grade 1 - Grade 3.

Five further adventures of two best friends as they share cookies, plant a garden, and test their bravery.

    3 year olds

After reading this well written book to myself, I thought it was funny and in good prose. Not only good for children learning to read, but for the parents, as well.

    My Review

¿One morning toad sat in bed. `I have many things to do,¿ he said.¿ Toad¿s morning sounds like my mornings! Immediately, I felt a connection with his character. The very first book I ever read was a Frog and Toad book. As a child, it was their undying friendship that kept me wanting to read more and more about their adventures. In this book, Frog and Toad help each other through their trials and tribulations ranging from making a list of ¿things to do¿ and having it blow away, to growing gardens, eating cookies, ridding their lives of dragons and realizing that dreams aren¿t real. If all friends had relationships like Frog and Toad, the world would be a crazy, but happy place!

    My Favorite Childhood Book!!!

Of all the books that I remember reading as a child, Frog and Toad always come to mind. At the age of 33, I'm a first time mother and I look forward to sharing this book with my daughter. I hope that she will love reading this book as much as I did when I began to read.

    Great Learning Book

When I first learned to read, this became an instant favorite. It is a great teaching tool. I recommend it to parents of 4-6 year-olds to get them to start reading as they enter pre-school and kindergarten. I also recommend it to those who grew up loving it as much as I did! You will have fun reading an old favorite!
