Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Wet or dry, teeth or toothless, loud or quiet—are just a few of the differences between a frog and toad. Learn how to differentiate between the two. The color photographs of a variety of frogs and toads fill the pages. Labels identify the different creatures. Each of the six chapters focuses on a different characteristic and has two to three sentences that briefly explain the difference between a frog and toad. One chapter summarizes the comparisons made in the book. Younger children may enjoy examining the pictures and learning about the differences with the help of an adult. Young readers may need some support with the content vocabulary and informational text features. These features include a table of contents, a vocabulary list with a pronunciation guide, and an index. Children who wish to learn more about frogs and toads will find a list of books and web sites for further exploration. To compare other animals that look alike, check out the other books in the series, "Which Animal is Which?" The collection is an excellent addition for a study on animals. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
