Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
From egg to adult, read about the life cycle of a frog. Each chapter begins with a question followed with a response. Some questions relate the frog's features with the reader's experiences like "Can you pick up food with your tongue?" and "How far can you jump?" Other questions are related to information about frogs like "What is the tiny black speck in the frog egg?" There are close-up, color photographs throughout the book. Some of the insets have additional information but it is unclear if they are related to the photo. For those readers wishing to learn more about frogs, there is a list of a few web sites to explore. There is an activity with directions to make a diagram on the life cycle of the frog. Some children may need some support with the activity; the proportions of the items to draw and cut are not stated; there is no illustration showing the end product. This book is part of the "Watch Them Grow" series which look at the life cycle of robins, cows, chickens, butterflies, and trees. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
