This is a wonderful, complex story with great characters, some really beautiful descriptions of Africa and a richness of detail about the silverback gorilla that shows the author did her research. It's a long book, and Ruth's relationships with her mother and her mother-in-law are explored as deeply as those with her husband Malone and his brother Brett. The themes of the story are dark, but the author provides comic relief with the nurse Lorena, and the gorilla Cee Cee. I laughed out loud at the scenes of Lorena chasing the buffalo from her garden and the many antics of Cee Cee. This is one of the most satisfying reads I've had in a long time. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
