Meet the Author
Anne Applebaum is the author of four books, including Gulag: A History, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2004. She is a columnist for the Washington Post and Slate.com, and director of Political Studies at the Legatum Institute in London. She lives in Poland, Washington, D.C., and London.
Danielle Crittenden blogs for the Huffington Post and her articles and essays have appeared in publications as wide-ranging as the Wall Street Journal and Ladies' Home Journal. The author of three books, she lives in Washington, D.C.

This book is a very interesting cookbook. It is mainly old polish recipes with a modern twist. The ingredients are not that hard to find, your local grocery store will do. Only a few recipes call for more hard to find items. Very well written and organized. Many of the recipes are everyday while some are more "special occasion". If you enjoy Polish cuisine then this book is filled with great ideas to change up the typical Polish fare. Would highly recommend to cooks with moderate to high kitchen skills, that like unique flavors.
i was a little skeptical when they talked about about how they had changed recipes to accommodate modern kitchens and western foodstuffs, bu the recipes that I tried turned out to be spot-on with the taste-memories from my grandmother's kitchen. A wealth of old-country comfort food ideas.
Honestly, anyone who has ever had Polish food knows its rather delicious. Russian and German mixed together with some excellently unique taste combinations. The authors of this cookbook know this, and they mix easy to follow recipes with anecdotes about the food itself and they create an excellent cookbook. Very recommended.
