Dear Annabelle,
Hi, my name's Guy. In case you've never heard of me, I'm sending this because my Dad and your Dad think we ought to be e-mail pen-pals. I bet you've got far better things to do than write to a boy you've never even met, so I won't mind if you don't want to bother.

Best wishes,
Guy Woodham

Overview

Dear Annabelle,
Hi, my name's Guy. In case you've never heard of me, I'm sending this because my Dad and your Dad think we ought to be e-mail pen-pals. I bet you've got far better things to do than write to a boy you've never even met, so I won't mind if you don't want to bother.

Best wishes,
Guy Woodham

Dear woodham@woodworks.com,
You're right, I've never heard of you. However, as this is clearly a Dad thing and I will get hassled by He Who Must Be Obeyed, I will add you to my list.

Your turn, Annabelle
P.S. Your name's got to go. You surely can't expect me to write "Hi Guy" at the beginning of a letter? I mean, yuk. It rhymes!

Though reluctant to correspond at first, Guy and Annabelle become fast cyber-friends and, just maybe, something more. But their budding relationship creates havoc when they start to speculate about what caused a feud between their fathers, letting their imaginations run wild -- with hilarious results.

Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
Guy and Annabelle have a unique relationship, solely based on the e-mails that they send to each other. Guy begins the friendship after his father suggests it. Quickly, the two begin a fun relationship rich with witty sarcasm. We learn much about these characters through their narrative e-mails; topics range from Guy's mother's death to Annabelle losing the lead in the school play. The author has created a great communication between these two characters, which reveals much about their parents and how their lives interweave. This is an appropriate novel for young adolescents living in a technological world. E-mail is often such an important part of their lives. They can relate to the humor and the wit found in the pages of these e-mails. The everyday struggles of these two characters are real and all can relate to and enjoy this book. d'Lacey has created an exceptionally unique and fun novel. Students will love to laugh and cry along with Annabelle and Guy. KLIATT Codes: JS—Recommended for junior and senior high school students. 2001, Simon & Schuster, Archway, 202p., $4.99.
