Dina and Mark Marshall, a nouveau riche couple in their thirties, live at Boca Forest, the top country club in Boca Raton, Florida, where they vie to keep up with wealthier residents. Mark, a financial planner and popular golf partner, regularly invites club members to partake in Dina's gourmet dinners in an attempt to further his business that affords them a luxurious Florida lifestyle. When Mark suddenly leaves his wife for the hot, younger blonde Taffie and the two take off for Key West, Dina finds little solace in her family and "friendships"--instead, she trumps her initial self-doubt and turns her obsessive list-making tendency into a flourishing home-catering business. Intent on keeping her head above the water and winning back her husband, Dina encounters a dashing young fellow chef and all-around great guy, Dex Ryder. Now everyone's talking--and not just about her fantastic cuisine. Dina's life is definitely on the upswing...until it all comes crashing down. Laugh, cry and cook with Dina as she discovers her true friends and decides where and with whom her future lies.

Don't read this if you're hungry! This is a book that left me wishing the author had included at least a few recipes. The Florida connection is there--made me miss some of my favorite haunts.

Reviewed by Patricia Day for Readers' Favorite "From One Place to Another" by Carol White takes the reader into the home and lives of Dina and Mark Marshall. This successful business couple live in an exclusive country club development, where success and appearance are critically important. When their marriage suddenly ends and Mark leaves, life for Dina becomes more and more difficult leaving her no choice but to use her cooking skills to create additional income. The relational ups and downs with her family and friends make for somewhat entertaining reading. Dina suffers rejection and disappointments, as she labors to make her business more sensational than any other. When she finds assistance in the form of Dex, she feels her life has improved, as he comes alongside as a business partner. Her efforts are eventually rewarded, with a successful business as well as a renewed appreciation of life. The book provides lots of culinary tips and relationship ups and downs. The book provides a light read in the culinary genre, creating a distinct appreciation for the day-to-day challenges that beset the working life of a chef. Ms. White goes into lengthy detail, as she develops the growth of Dina's business. I found the book a bit long, considering the content and depth of the story, and there is some profanity. But on the whole "From One Place to Another" is a good read.

I happened to receive this book as a gift - the cover is so beautiful and fetching I dived right into it. I totally loved it! I felt like a fly on the wall of a ritzy Boca Raton country club all the while hoping that the main character, Dina Marshall, could rise above the snobbery, make a living AND get her husband back. Although the book talks a lot about food, there really aren't any recipes - maybe the author will write a follow up cookbook. I don't want to give anything away, but the scenes where Dina is preparing for a big party are so funny I was LOL. She hits some pretty big bumps in the road as we all do in life which makes this book more realistic than a typical romance novel. There's a reader's guide at the end if you are in a book club - the questions do make you think. All in all I thought it was a wonderful novel.
