That's what this book is about--the good times and the bad times. I wrote this book to explain the world I come from. To a lot of people, I may be too young to reflect on life. And they may be right. But I'd be wasting my blessings if I didn't use the attention I'm getting to shed light on the experiences that have caused me to say the things I say and make the kind of music I make. I want to explain my environment to those who don't come any closer to it than the records they buy or the images they see on television. People want the truth. Even if they can't handle it, they want it. I let you know that I survived nine bullets not to sell records, but because it's the truth. Every time I sit down for an interview, I'm asked, "Well, 50, how did it feel to get shot nine times?" But those stories don't hold the weight, the pain, or the hope of my experience. It just can't. This is my mindset and these are the things that go on. This is why I say the rhymes that I say. This is what happened when I was trying to get rich before I died in Southside Queens.
So begins From Pieces to Weight: Once Upon a Time in Southside Queens, a violent and introspective memoir that reveals not only 50's story but the story of a generation of youth faced with hard choices and very little options. A tale of sacrifice, transformation and redemption, but it is also one of hope, determination and the power of self. Told in 50's own unique voice, the narrative drips with the raw insight, street wisdom, and his struggle to survive at all costs...and behold the riches of the American Dream.
50 Cent has sold over 20 million records worldwide. His record-breaking debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin' has sold over 12 million units worldwide, with the largest debut in SoundScan history. While his sophomore effort, The Massacre, sold over 1.14 million copies in its fi rst four days of release, he has since become the fi rst artist to have four songs in the top ten of Billboard's Hot 100 since The Beatles in 1964.
His business empire includes: a record label (G-Unit Records, a division of Interscope Records), apparel/footwear ventures (G-Unit Clothing and footwear, joint ventures through the Ecko Clothing Company and Reebok, respectively), vitamin water (Formula 50, through Glacéau's Vitamin Water), watch line (G-Unit Watches, through Jacob & Co), and a video game (50 Cent: Bulletproof, through Vivendi Games). His future plans are to dominate the film and television worlds through two new G-Unit ventures in film and television...and his most prized project: the nonprofit organization The G-Unity Foundation, which aims to better the life of urban youth.

this is the best book that i have read in a long time i really enjoyed it and if you are into great books and interested in peoples lifestyle then this would be a great book for you. 50 cent went through lots of struggles he was one of the kids who had a sort of a bad lifestyle, he was forced to move with his grandmother at a young age which is age 8. his mother was murderd. she was a drug dealer who sold it and smoked it. when 50 mother was alive she abondoned him by leaving him with family members while she go out party and have fun.i knew this book was gonna be good to read but i didnt think it was this good. this is the best book i have read in a long time. as 50cent comes out with different versions to this book i will be picking it up. 50 is also my favorite recording artist. as you get to know 5ocent later on in the book you will learn that he was shot 9 times and still living til this day. he talks with a slur sometimes but its ok because he is still living. so to end this i have to say the book is excellent and i will recommend it to everyone.

Many people know 50 Cent from his chart chopping songs and number one albums. What people don't know is what 50 Cent has been through to establish himself as one of rap's biggest stars. But behind all the fame and fortune is a determined hustler from South Side Jamaica Queens.
From Pieces to Weight is auto-biography written by 50 Cent himself. He tells of stories that have shaped him into the person he is today. He speaks of his biggest negatives in life like getting shot and the death of his mother to his biggest positives like the birth of his son and having a number one album in the world. He speaks of short stories that only 50 Cent could illustrate. The book presents the reader with 50 Cent's story from the very begging of childhood, to 2003 when his debut album went platinum.
From Pieces to Weight is a book that someone could read and immediately be grateful for their life and how it easy it seems in comparison to others. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is misunderstood by his music, but he's just honestly rapping about what he's been through and seen in the first 26 years of his life. He talks about never giving up in life, and living by his own motto, "Get rich, or die trying".
Since the book was written by 50 Cent, it lacks the professional story telling that a famous writer provides, but what the book lacks in writing skills, it shines in cold truthful tails. However, 50 Cent's songs contain wide vocabulary, heavy metaphors, creative similes and use of unique poetic story telling skills, so it's no surprise that he also uses these writing skills in his novel.
The book isn't for young kids with all the cursing and drug references, but it's hard to imagine him writing this book without profanity. The profanity helps tell a better story and paint a more graphic picture. The book also isn't for people who aren't into hip-hop or rap culture as they will have a very difficult time relating too many of the stories and struggles told in the story. People that want to know someone who's been through struggle and how they made it out should defiantly read this book.
Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is not a novelist by any means, but his writing skill defiantly sets himself away from the average Joe. A Recommendation I have to any readers is to listen to 50 Cent's underground music such as The Power of the Dollar. It really showcases his writing skills and hunger he had to make it big in the music industry.
The book is a good read with a lot of strong messages. 50 Cent wrote this book from the heart and readers can easily tell that he had to make sacrifices and go through struggle to be successful. I thought the book was one of the best books I've ever read.

Curtis Jackson A.K.A 50 Cent was born in 1976. His mom was a drug dealer who was killed when he was a little boy. He went live with his grandparents. He then began the family business. He entered this business so he can get money to buy the things he needed. Next Curtis was accidentally caught with drugs in school random search as well as arrested for possession shortly thereafter. After getting out, he went back to the business. Over the next decade, 50 Cent evolved from a hustler selling capsules of crack cocaine pieces to by the kilo weight. Outrunning police on his motorcycle and waking up to a drug raid on his house. He avoided jail by going to a camp. When he left the camp he found a new way of life which is to be a rapper. 50 Cent was later signed to Columbia records and recorded tracks targeting drug lords from his past and aggravated them enough for them to target him in a shooting. This lead into a shooting which 50 Cent got shot nine times from close distance. 50 cent recovered from this and became one of the most famous rappers there is today. So if you like this book I think you should see Get Rich or Die Tryin of the other way around.

The book was good. it took back into the life of fifty and his childhood. I wish the book would have gotten deeper into his mind rather than his encounters with numerous drug dealers. i felt as if fifty should have let the reader know more about things that he felt

If you don¿t know, now you know! He squashed all the rumors in the media and gave you a first rate education in grass roots marketing, business development, psychology and life. What I loved most is the book is written in 50¿s own voice. I don¿t read many books in a day, but this one was a done deal within 24 hours. My colleagues were dumbfounded when they saw 50 Cent¿s story incorporated in my corporate training materials, until I put it into context. There¿s only one thing to do with the truth. Accept it. Nice work 50!

I loved this book. 50 really lets you see his world and the way he thinks. The guy was a real Gangsta in everyway. To everyone who stills dont belive he was real, go but the DVD 'Who Dares Win' and listen to the guys from his own hood talk about how he used to break peoples jaws and had a Benz at 19 years old. Stop hating on the guy and love him for getting out of the hood. Much Love Fif.

Some people don't understand how hard it is to come up in a life where survival only offers one road. That road may be drug dealing. I'm not justifying it, but 50 is a specific case, and unfortunately there are others like him. Mr. Jackson¿s book will be a success in not only being an example of what perseverance, strength and hard work will lead to when applying these values to any aspiration in life, but how his application of these values became a metaphorical transition of his upcoming as drug dealer to a multi-platinum rap artist and hip-hop mogul. Mr. Jackson made a big come up despite others who have tried to suppress his success and relationships he had with artists and mentors in the industry. Some people don¿t see or realize how hard he works. Beyond his talent as a rap artist, he is the epitome of a businessman. Unlike some of his fellow Black artists, he was able to play by the corporate rules in our capitalistic society that is structured (especially in the music industry) to sucks artists dry and he capitalized and built his own empire (respectively with the help of other people). He is a rising icon whether people want to recognize it. In the words of 50, ¿Success is the best revenge.¿
