Overview

She's a household name throughout Europe and South America, having sold a stunning 20 million albums around the globe. Up until now, however, U.S. pop music enthusiasts had only heard Pausini's Celine Dion–reminiscent vocals in spurts: on Pavarotti & Friends and on the soundtracks to Message in a Bottle and Pokémon 2000. With the release of her eagerly awaited English-language debut, From the Inside Out, this Italian native hopes to wow American audiences with her willowy, stylistically malleable pipes. And with standout tracks such as the dramatic, mid-tempo "I Need Love," the upbeat, M2M-like rocker "Everyday Is a Monday," and the smoldering, bluesy "If That's Love," she may very well replicate her overseas success on American soil. Throughout the disc, the engaging Pausini bares her soul, revealing that the beauty in her music comes From the Inside.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Christina Fuoco
Italian pop star Laura Pausini's first English LP, From the Inside, is a guilty pleasure for any closeted fan of easy-listening pop (Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, Backstreet Boys). The album kicks off with the glorious "I Need Love," a song that earned her U.S. exposure when the ABC daytime drama All My Children used it as a love theme. Other highlights include "Every Day Is a Monday," a Europop mainstream song laced with a wah-wah guitar, and the Dion-like "Without You." Pausini is clearly influenced by Dion. Her voice doesn't soar to the heights that Dion reaches, but she comes close in songs such as "If That's Love" and "Every Day Is a Monday." Like most albums filled with love songs, "surrender" is a theme throughout From the Inside, especially in the funky ballad "Do I Dare" and the Europop "Surrender." This is one album to surrender to.

I've always been a big fan of Laura since she conquered Italy by winning the Sanremo Festival. She's now the biggest star in Europe and South America, the only italian singer who brought our music in other countries. She's a very powerful voice, so sweet that you couldn't stop listening to her songs. This english debut has surprised me. I knew she could hit north America but i'm really impressed with the way she's doing it. From the Inside is a very touching album! Every track has a specific meaning; she explains how she feels now that she's broke up with her boyfriend after a nine years relationship. You can see a more mature Laura, with the same style but with different feelings. You won't miss this album! She's just amazing. What makes her a special person is her inside beauty; she's so simple, sweet and strong at the same time. You'll defenitely love her and her music!

I have never heard about this excellent super star, but when i listened on the radio by the first time to this wonderful song "Surrender" I thought that it would be a good idea to buy it. When I bought it I just fell in love with every song from this excellente album. What are you waiting for???? Buy it now on Barnes & Noble!! You will be very happy after you listen to this CD.

Upon my first listen of this CD at a record store, I had to buy this! What a refreshing young talent! This is clearly an artist with the experience and the praticality, yes, praticality, to know how to present herself without going overboard (unlike many of todays artists!) She has been described as having a voice of 'youthful exhuberance.' Indeed! Yet, she knows well enough to surround herself with very capable talent (Guy Roche & Patrick Leonard). The result is a very polished, well balanced, pop album that is fun (and definitly accomplishes what it sets out to do!). The first (I hope of many) singles is 'Surrender'. It has a very international appeal, yet, the true winner for the states is 'It's Not Goodbye'. Very good work with her voice, also. Any accent that she has does not get in the way. Its a tribute to her talent as well as those who helped her with this album. Why American radio has not caught on to her, I do not know.

Excellent first effort for US consumption... It's very obvious this is a professional artist who takes great pride in her work. There's a vulnerable, haunting quality to Ms. Pausini's voice that draws the listener in while she seems to sit down beside you singing her heart out. Her voice is an earthy, smoked-whiskey balm spreading through the wake-up call 'If That's Love' and the reprise of 'Every Little Thing You Do' which are probably my favorite tracks. 'Without You' is a stirring, well-orchestrated piece that she really opens up on - her experience shines through and allows her to pack it full of emotion while keeping it from becoming too maudlin... Most of the lyrics translate well - at least, I assume the original language for most of the songs wasn't English. However, there are a couple of misfires that keep the album from hitting full-stride. 'Surrender' sounds an awful lot like another non-American singer's 'flagship' song that we're seeing WAY too much of these days... It's probably a much better song than my tired ears are hearing. 'I Do To Be' is a spunky pseudo-disco piece that displays her range admirably, but brings to my shallow American mind some unintended amusing Americanisms. One thing that seems to be missing is some non-English tracks. While most of the recent import artists HAVE to add native language tracks as a form of filler, this is obviously not a problem for this European star. Still, I really would have liked to have heard a couple of the tracks in Italian - which I believe is her native language? Those minor little stumbles aside, this is an excellent CD. You won't be disappointed.

Laura Pausini is the best pop singer in the world. This album, with some songs previously recorded in Italian and Spanish, is very fun and emotional, also mature. I think that adults as well as teens will fall in love with her rich voice and energetic performances on this record. Please check out her other albums, even if you dont understand Spanish or Italian. Her passion for the music and powerful delivery will still entrance and go far beyond the actual lyrics themselves.

Well, I'm from Brazil and since I had listened to Laura's voice on "Strani amori"(from Laura 1994 album) I began to like her very much, she's very, very charismatic and here in Brazil, she has sold over 1,500,000 copies of her Italian and Spanish albuns - I have all in Italian and the song from "La mia risposta" called 'In assenza di te' becomes amazingly beautiful in English as "It's not good-bye" Oh!!!!! And, undoubtfully, SURRENDER is one of the best songs I've heard one artist release in a single before the album. I was very amazed with Laura's performance on songs in English, I understand every word she says. EXCELLENT ALBUM! I LIKE ALMOST ALL SONGS!
