"... Frommer's really impresses with its stunning color photographs. Pictures sometimes make a difference in choosing between dozens of must-try activities. A stunning photo of lava flowing from Halemaumau immediately put a volcano tour at the top of my Big Island itinerary.... It's a guidebook that answers questions you may never have thought to ask." The color coded page borders for each separate island make research a snap! The photos are wonderful, and the information is short and to the point. However, some readers may wish the book contained more lengthy detailed descriptions of the specific attractions/hotels which are of the greatest interest. However, the book is not intended to be exhaustive. It is a wonderfully organized "idea book" filled with great suggestions for surefire adventures, organized island by island. The "Favorite Moments" listed for each island give a definite sense of the unique personality of each island. The suggested 3-day itinerary for each is a great starting point for planners like myself who want to create a trip that has a bit of "down time" mixed with hitting the "must see" sights. I also love the nice mix of popular "must see" attractions along with a representative sample of lesser known but equally wonderful adventures to be found off of the beaten path. The organization is outstanding and is similar for each island, making research and comparison of attractions, hotels, and entertainment options very convenient. In summary, this book is a wonderful tool for helping us to plan our first trip to Hawaii. It has something for everyone-- a good balance of organized planning information (which appeals to me), concise information about specific attractions and destinations (which appeals to my wife), and enticing photographs (which appeal to our 6 year old daughter). I know it will continue to be a valued aid in planning future trips as well.
