    A very good, basic overview of Ireland

    I am writing from Waterford, Ireland, where I have brought my copy of Frommer's IRELAND 2009 for a five-week study-abroad stay. This may not have been the best of all possible books to assist me with such a prolonged time in one area (SE Ireland). That at which Frommer's guides excel is the overview, the comprehensive survey for short-trippers, people who are covering a lot of territory in a brief period of time. For them, for the first-time visitors, for people trying to see a lot of Ireland on vacation or holiday or as part of business trips, this book would be ideal. It covers historical, religious, literary, sporting, leisure, shopping, dining, and sundry other activities that tourists pursue. It does not go into depth or into the out-of-the-way, off-the-beaten path side trips that someone staying more than two weeks in one area might desire. Nonetheless, I would happily give this as a gift to someone eager to visit Ireland for the first or second time.
