I bought this book in preparation for a 3 day trip to Charleston. We had never been before so I needed all the information I could get. This book really delivered! It was concise, had excellent information and was easy to read. The top sights were listed and it even had a section on how to make the most of our 3 days. We used the restaurant recommendations and went to Hyman's Seafood, which is an old family owned restaurant housed in former retail shops. It was delicious. Very homey and great seafood. They put out boiled peanuts instead of bread on every table. After a delicious dinner (try the crab dip) the owner came to our table and gave all the children a fake dollar bill to go get some of their delicious homemade ice cream. We all loved it. We took advantage of a carriage ride (suggested by the book) and it was wonderful. Our guide was very informative. The book gave us walking tour suggestions and we followed all of them we could. This is the only book on Charleston that you will need and it fits easily in a purse.

I recently used the ratings and recommendations contained in this book during a trip to Charleston. I found the information outdated and incomplete. The reviews of restaurants and hotels have not changed since the 2003 edition. Many nice restaurants did not appear in the book. It is laughable that The Planter's Inn rated as highly as the Woodlands Inn and Resort. Do not rely on this book as your only source of information on this amazing city. My advice is that you not buy it at all.
