    desert island disc

Fronteras de Suenos is a sonic work of art that is just as enjoyable to listen to today as it was upon its initial release in 1991. Led by guitarist Pablo Menendez, Mezcla serves up an eclectic line-up of solid songs that incorporate elements of jazz, pop, latin, and even classical.... this disc is an endlessly interesting musical mosaic etched on a canvas of Cuban culture. The first -rate music is complemented by lyrics that are thoughtful and poetic, and at times provide social commentary as in the case of 'Rio Quibu', a song describing the tragic environmental impact of a polluted river that runs through Havana's neighborhoods. The musicianship on the album is first rate throughout and the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Sonia Cornuchet are showcased on many of the tracks. Fronteras de Suenos is a must-have cd that simply leaves 99% of its competition in the dust.
