Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Pinar Bulut, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This book covers aspects of celiac disease from basic knowledge of the disease to new concepts in disease pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention. Each chapter is an article written by an expert in the field.
Purpose: The purpose is to address controversial and yet unresolved topics by capitalizing on the contributions of opinion leader experts in celiac disease. In my opinion, the book does not fully meet its objectives since further studies and investigations need to be done to prove some of the contributors' theories and opinions. The book does meet some of its objectives, but leaves some controversial topics unresolved.
Audience: It is written primarily for physicians or scientists with a specific interest in celiac disease and immunology.
Features: The book extensively reviews celiac disease from pathophysiology to treatment and new concepts. Written by leaders in celiac disease, it is therefore very detailed, incorporating the latest scientific data in each chapter. Figures and table correlate well with the text and makes comprehension easier.
Assessment: Specialists and scientists with a particular interest in celiac disease will find this book stimulating. The coverage of celiac disease is exhaustive. However, it is not appropriate for students or practitioners and does not provide information that a general practitioner would find useful in daily practice.
