Wolf, a prolific writer and editor, has yet to run out of good ideas for art instruction books. Here, she very logically pairs two of the most popular still life genres into a highly useful volume. An introductory chapter on composing and drawing flowers is illustrated with reference photos. Subsequent chapters cover specific techniques in watercolor, colored pencil, acrylics, pastels, and oils, each handled by a different artist. The whole text hangs together remarkably well. This is an excellent choice for all general collections. Larger collections will want to supplement it with works in individual media, such as Joe Anna Arnett s Painting Sumptuous Vegetables, Fruits & Flowers in Oils (LJ 11/15/97).
