Fruit of the Spirit: Love By Calvin Miller

This book is part of the Fruit of the Spirit Study Guide Series. It is a 6 week study(intended for small life groups). Each week assessed a different aspect of Love broken down into daily study/memory verse format. The bible is used through out the publication to make sure that it is in line with scripture.

It is a great study application for any small group along with the other books in this series. All in all it was a nice book to do individual study with.

This book was given to me through the Booksneeze Program, and i was under no obligation to write a good/bad/or any review at all.

    Good Small Group Resource

I received this book through Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze program. It is a six-week topical study on love. I didn't read the product description very well and thought I was just getting a group study. Each week covers a different aspect of love. Each week has a memory verse then 6 daily sections with bible reading, a section to read and a couple of questions which are to be completed individually. The seventh day consists of questions for group discussion.

The book is well organised and the questions allows plenty of room for personal reflection and application. They are the types of questions that are generally good conversation sparks in a group setting and he avoids obvious reading comprehension questions that from experience tend to be greeted by a wall of silence.

I wouldn't pick this to do in my group, mainly because it requires quite a bit of preparation, but if you are involved in a group that is willing to do homework then this would be a good choice.

    Love By; Calvin Miller

Love is an 6 week bible study that can be done individually or with a small group.

The lesson are short with a little bit of reading and questions after the reading.

There are 5 lessons for each week. So you can study God's word everyday.

There is also an memory passage for each week, this is good so you can hide the word of God in your heart.

Love bible study comes from the scripture:

    Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

This book is based on the first fruit of the spirit which is the greatest of all of them.
You want to become more like Christ, then love like Christ first loved us.
This bible study teaches to love others as Christ first loved us.

In the back of the book are group discussion questions and there a place to write down prayer requests and how God has blessed you during your study time. This is a good reflection for a later time to see how God moved during this bible study.

    Table of Contents:

Week 1: The Evidence of Love is Giving.
    Week 2: Love Forgives
Week 3: Love-The Definition of God.
Week 4: Love-God's Passion for His World
Week 5: Love- Unconditional Longing of God.
Week 6: Love- The Incarnational Force of God.

This book is great for new Christians

Love by Calvin Miller is a six-week study that takes one through an in-depth look at what love looks like. Miller explains that love is perhaps one of the most overused and misused word in our language. We use it to describe our feelings for things such as we love sports, or we love spring. But the Bible tells us that love is a characteristic of God. Through this study, Miller teaches that love is the result of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us, allowing us to reflect the image of Christ.

This study is organized into six main lessons and is best completed when working in a group, although that is not a requirement. Each week is introduced with an overlay of what is going to be covered. Five of the days are spent reading a piece of scripture and then looking at what God is teaching us through it. There are also some questions that are asked for us to look a little deeper within ourselves. My favorite part, the sixth day, is a look a person or persons in the Bible that portrayed love the way the Christ did and does through us. Then on the seventh day is the group discussion when everyone gets together and discusses what they learned throughout the week, although, again, this does not have to happen.

All in all, this book is a great study for new Christians or Sunday school classes, but Christians who are trying to look for a deeper look into the Word of God I would suggest skipping this book.

This book is one of nine studies that Calvin Miller has that looks at each and every one of the fruits of Spirit.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.
