Editorial Reviews

Apartment Therapy

“Beginning as well as experienced gardeners in the US and Canada will find authoritative information here in an easy-to-use format.”
From the Publisher

"If you have ever thought about branching out in edible gardening into the world of pomme fruits, citrus and stone fruits, but thought you didn't have the space to make it work, this is certainly the book to help you along."
Chicago Tribune

“…talks about turning your yard into a small orchard, growing fruit trees in pots, what works, what doesn't, and even includes recipes.”

Library Journal
Eierman, who designs and manages garden and farm projects, has created an attractive, informative guide for gardeners who would like to grow fruit trees in small yards or containers. He begins with a general introduction to growing fruit trees, followed by a detailed guide to stone, pome, and citrus fruits. Each entry contains information on choosing and planting the young trees, cultural information, harvesting tips, pruning techniques, and advice on managing pests and diseases, followed by a sampling of suggested varieties with brief descriptions of each. While he provides general guidelines on where each fruit may be successfully grown, he recommends that gardeners contact local nurseries or their cooperative extension service for help in choosing varieties best suited to their region. Next he covers the details of orchard planting and care, pruning, and grafting. The book is illustrated with beautiful color photographs, and it concludes with recipes created by Mike Emanuel. VERDICT Beginning as well as experienced gardeners in the United States and Canada will find authoritative information here in an easy-to-use format.—Sue O'Brien, Downers Grove P.L., IL
