Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
These two titles cover similar territory—how to free oneself from emotional bondage and to achieve abundant living after putting the plug in the jug. Psychologist Berger (12 Stupid Things That Mess Up Recovery) draws on the studies from psychological research and the lessons of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) founder Bill W. to offer 12 smart things to do to achieve self-mastery—the maintaining of a healthy relationship with oneself. Each chapter offers readings and instructions on such goals as pressuring oneself instead of others to change, appreciating what is, and not taking things personally. Essentially, Berger helps the reader to fill the hole once filled by addiction in a manner comfortable to those familiar with AA material. Motivational speaker and recovering alcoholic McAlister incorporates a strong reliance on God for assistance in achieving long-term success. He uses personal examples and case studies of both success and failure to help the reader explore old maladaptive habits/beliefs, find motivational activities, and develop a game plan that overcomes hurdles. He provides exercises and practical applications for career and relationship goals. All those in recovery or even actively drinking can get help from either book, but practicing Christians may prefer Full Recovery.

Sober and wanting "More". Read this book

This piece of literature has offered me a way to simplify my understanding of myself. The practical approach it offers is currently helping me to recreate my own life while helping others. I am truly "living" what this book offers. It is absolutely incredible how a simple set of ideas that Brian McAlister offers, brings an immediate attitude renewal and relief of "loss of direction". My current pursuits have been given an incredible punch into a higher energy of appreciation and purpose. What I was doing before did not have the confidence level that it has now and confidence offers such a heightened perception that creates more and more opportunities. I am truly grateful to this author and the insights that he shares with the reader. Bravo!

    Achieve goals

This is a valuable addition to McAlister's first book - the ABCs of conquering addiction. Now he has given us another thought-provoking and inspiring must-read for a key to an unbridled successful future. This is a book for all ages - it is never too late to be well, or to achieve our goals. Great read!!

    Inspiring!

This book was an inspiration to read from cover to cover. If you know someone who is struggling with any kind of addiction, whether drugs or alcohol it is well worth your read. It not only offered practical ideas & tips like "hold onto thoughts of prosperity" but also delved into the personal problems of the author. It was so down to earth that you felt that you COULD follow the suggestions & that you too could succeed & have a better life free from addictions. Brian gives hope to those with addictions & for their families.

BEST Recovery Book I have EVER Read

...And I read a lot of them! This book is a must read for anyone who is in recovery for addiction (and it just might be a must read for anyone who wants more out of life). Brian's take on rebuilding and relaunching your life after suffering from addiction is right on point... He knew where I was comming from and pointed me in a new direction on how to get where I really wanted be. I can't say enoug... and what I will say isn't going to do it justice, so I'll just say to you: READ THIS BOOK! You won't be dissappointed.. And if you know someone who is recently sober and trying to get his or her life back on track, BUY THIS FOR THEM! It will be the best gift you can give them.
