Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Great things come from a powerful vision—fortunes are made, diseases get cured, and democracies are born. Blanchard and Stoner not only teach readers how to develop a potent vision ... but also the equally important lesson of how to bring it alive.
Publishers Weekly
Blanchard, co-author of the bestselling One Minute Manager series, and consultant Stoner use a parable to convey the importance of vision to a company's success. Ellie has just returned to her job at an insurance company after an unpleasant divorce. She's startled by the e-mail messages the company's new president, Jim, sends to all employees. They're honest, upbeat and filled with personal anecdotes. One morning, Ellie gets to the office early and joins the only other person there-Jim-for coffee. Their first conversation is the start of a long and productive friendship. Jim encourages Ellie to think about herself and her career, while she helps him create a vision and plan for changes at the company. This story takes up the bulk of the book, as Blanchard and Stoner incorporate Jim and Ellie's discussions of vision (which includes recognizing your purpose and values and having a firm picture of the future) into the parable. Although the book rarely breaks from Jim and Ellie to offer general counsel, the authors' simple, straightforward writing style makes their advice obvious. (May 5) Forecast: Blanchard runs the Ken Blanchard Companies, a global network of programs that teach employee productivity and leadership and team skills. This book will join his extensive line of books, videos and audio recordings; expect rigorous sales. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.

Full Steam Ahead: Unleash the Power of Vision in Your Company and Your Life

Excellent book that is an easy and quick read, yet filled with practical, useful information on how to create a vision and implement it! I for one am tired of reading books that talk about the importance of vision but give no clue on how to create one. This book does both: it shows exactly how to create a compelling vision and it also shows how to make it come alive. The advice in this book is down to earth and easy to apply. It provides the roadmap I've been looking for. If you only read one book this year, this is the one to read!

    Highly recommended

Two years ago I decided to change my attitude but didn't really know how. I started reading books about attitude and I changed my life. It helped at work but I still didn't know how to get my team going. So, I bought leadership and teamwork books and kept that learning curve going strong. After a few months I was moved into a leadership role. I was doing very well but still needed something and I couldn't quite figure it out. For months I continued with team building and leadership books and I have read (or heard) over 50 by many different authors in the last two years. The problem was that I had reached a plateau, until now. Full Steam Ahead is the next step for me. Now I have listened to it three times and have starting to share its concepts with my manager and my wife. The first books helped get me into a team leadership role at work but this (I can tell) is going to get me through the next step. Thanks and I hope the book does well.

Full Steam Ahead: Unleash the Power of Vision in Your Company and Your Life

Full Steam Ahead! is by far the best book I¿ve read in the past two years. An enjoyable, easy to read book, it is powerful, practical and full of good advice. It should be required reading for all managers or anyone who aspires to any kind of leadership position. Full Steam Ahead! is packed with real-world examples that show how the ideas presented in the book translate to action. It gives examples of real businesses, public schools, fire departments, etc and also personal examples of real people. Blanchard and Stoner say that anyone can create a powerful vision, and they show you how. They EXPLAIN HOW to create a shared vision for your team and also how to create a compelling vision for your own life. If you have been feeling that something is missing or wondering what to do next, by all means read this book. It will show you how a vision provides energy, focus and clear direction, how others have successfully created vision and how you can do it also. The best advice I can give you is to do what I did. First read it yourself. Next have everyone on your team read it. Then follow the advice in the book and go Full Steam Ahead!

    Excellent book!

This is a great book! Full Steam Ahead! showed me what I¿ve been doing right and also showed me what else I need to do. I got a copy of the book for everyone in the office. It has provided a basis for some great discussions and helped us create an energizing and focusing vision. The story itself is very well-written and enjoyable¿it has much more depth than any of the current parable-type business books. In fact, it reads like a good novel. However, more importantly, it is packed with insights and useful information. I listened to the tape twice and am still thinking about it.
