Curtis Turner, the first NASCAR celebrity, wrote the book on living fast and dying young. Charismatic and fearless, he created drama at the racetrack and in his personal life, living the American Dream several times over before he died a violent and mysterious death at the young age of forty-six.
Curtis Turner was one of the biggest stars of his era in NASCAR. Turner's autobiography "Timber on the Moon" is long out-of-print and this book gives a full look at Turner's life and times.
I attended the first race ever at Rockingham NC which turned out to be Turner's last career victory; and learned a lot from this book.
This book tells of his career (and life) from the beginning and tells about his colorful career as a timber dealer as well as his racing and life on and off the track with fellow Virginian and great friend Joe Weatherly.
This book is a necessary read for those who are new to the sport of stock car racing, as well as those of us who are long-time fans.
I also believe that this book will be of interest to anyone interested in this important part of the post-World War II South; and why stock car racing became THE sport of the South.

Enjoyable read for race fans. Offers some insight into some of the aspects of Turner's life in racing that many don't know. i.e. building the Charlotte racetrack and the circumstances behind his ban for promoting a driver's union.
