Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
As the title reflects, this book is all about fun and travel. Each chapter explains one of 50 timed destinations to various events such as Carnival Rio in Brazil, Chinese New Year in Hong Kong, the Vienna Opera Ball in Austria, Oktoberfest in Germany, and the Cannes Film Festival in France. Davis (The Fun Also Rises Travel Guide North America) documents the history and traditions of the varied feasts, festivals, fairs, carnivals, and other celebratory events and then follows each chapter with a "hot sheet," which lists hotels, restaurants, nightlife, and other attractions with telephone numbers, addresses, and prices. Also included are a calendar for 2000 (for travel by date) and a geographical index (for travel by destination). This adventurous approach to traveling is not for those who like to travel off-season or to get off the beaten path, but the history of the festivals will surely be of interest to arm-chair travelers. Recommended for larger public libraries.--Melinda Stivers Leach, Wondervu, CO Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.\
