Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The Molesons are back. This lovable family of moles has a way of turning the most everyday happenings into memorable events. In this entertaining step-into-reading book—the fourth in the series—the "pretty ordinary" Molesons have funny adventures involving homework trouble, sleepless nights, swimming, trips to the movies, and a day at the amusement park. Published originally in Switzerland, the humor of the stories and the charm of the illustrations translate well. 2000, North-South Books, $13.95 and $13.88. Ages 8 to 10. Reviewer: Dianne Ochiltree

K-Gr 2-The fourth book about the everyday adventures of a mole family. Dug narrates eight vignettes about his parents, twin sister, and grandmother. Some tales are cozy in their familiarity, such as "Musical Beds," which illustrates a restless night. Others are more touching, as in "Catching a Flick," wherein Grandma demands equal access to the theater that sells her a ticket but cannot accommodate her wheelchair. The resolution and her final response are satisfying. Each short reflection recognizes humor in adversity. De Beer's endearing watercolor-and-line pictures on every page enhance the wit.
