Collectables Fun With the 'Ol Professor '44-'47 collects various tracks recorded by swing bandleader Kay Kyser during the latter stage of his career. Kyser's band grew from a likeable if lightweight cornball dance band into a solid and respected swing ensemble. By the late '40s Kyser had let some hardcore jazz improvisation filter into his sound which began to reflect the more adventurous Bebop-style.There are a few hits included here, but mostly these are lesser known b-sides. As such, collectors searching for a solid overview of Kyser's career should look elsewhere. That said, this does make for a nice alternative compilation for longtime Kyser fans as most everything ...
