Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: David Kirsch, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This is an easy to read, simplified book of essential body MR topics commonly encountered in clinical practice.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a fundamental book on bread-and-butter topics in body MRI. This is certainly a worthy objective as there are many large textbooks that provide very detailed explanations of the more complex topics.
Audience: The book is appropriate for all levels of training and a broad subset of specialties. It has broad application, from someone starting out in body MR to a subspecialist outside of radiology to a practicing radiologist with a problematic case needing differential considerations.
Features: The broad range of topics includes MR of the liver, pancreas, kidney, adrenal gland, and female pelvis. Adequate images and tables supplement the text centering on an imaging approach as opposed to an encyclopedic style of pathological diagnosis. The chapters on liver and pancreatobiliary system are excellent and concise. The physics chapter provides a common sense approach and readability that is often difficult to achieve. The text is not overly detailed and does not get bogged down in advanced topics, which would be more appropriate in a more comprehensive textbook. This book focuses on the most common topics encountered in general clinical practice. Due to the size of the book, some topics were not represented, such as breast and cardiovascular MR.
Assessment: I would recommend this as a concise introduction or quick reference for difficult but common topics encountered in daily clinical practice. It is a needed addition to the field of body MR.
From the Publisher

"Fundamentals of Body MRI has been long overdue - as one of the most complex fields in radiology, body MRI needs a ‘fundamentals’ text. The volume fulfills that need, giving readers authoritative coverage of key concepts in body MRI. In print and online, this detailed and heavily illustrated reference will help readers effectively master the complexities of interpreting findings from this imaging modality. Abstention from the passive tense further enhances the readability of this text." -
