Editorial Reviews

Anne M. Kennedy
This is a new book on chest radiology, which provides a short concise introduction to a huge field. The aim was to whittle down the immense field of chest imaging to manageable proportions for the novice radiologist and fledgling clinician. Almost every doctor needs to look at chest x-rays at some time, and this book provides a clear and concise summary of the key facts needed for interpretation. It also includes basics on CT and MRI. The book is written for residents in training in radiology, family practice, and internal medicine, with the authors coming from both radiology and internal medicine. This combination results in a practical text for the novice in either area. The book is very well illustrated, with the majority of images well reproduced. There are no references, but this is appropriate in an introductory book. The authors encourage the reader to go on to read the bigger texts on the subject. One particularly useful feature is the use of algorithms for problem solving. This is an excellent little book, very reasonably priced considering the number and quality of the illustrations. I intend to have my first-year residents use it as their introductory text. Individual radiology residents would probably buy one of the bigger reference texts rather than this, but any teaching department should have one available in the resident library.
