Editorial Reviews

Ola Houston Fox
The fourth edition of this fundamentals text provides a basic foundation of current principles of practicing basic nursing skills and understanding of theoretical concepts. The purpose is to provide a comprehensive coverage of fundamental nursing concepts, skills, and techniques of nursing practice and a firm foundation for more advanced areas of study. These objectives are clearly met in this text. The objectives are noteworthy and essential for a good practice ability in nursing skills and foundations. The authors have targeted this book toward beginning students in all types of professional programs; however, in my opinion, the book is a great refresher in basic skills applications for practicing nurses. The authors are very credible and combine expertise from education and practice. This is a wonderfully packaged text with nearly 1,000 full-color photographs and drawings that easily engage the reader. References are current and reflect up-to-date information. The table of contents and index are complete. Overall, the book is attractive and the reader will enjoy its unique presentation of tables, charts, appendices, photographs, and outlines. Cultural diversity and critical thinking are highlighted. This is an excellent reference for the intended audience. Students will find it easy to use in classroom and clinical preparation. I would highly recommend any nursing student to purchase this reference. It is up-to-date and unique in its presentation.
