Overview

The thirteenth—and final—book in the internationally bestselling fantasy adventure series that inspired the forthcoming major motion picture Seventh Son. Finally, Tom Ward, the spook's last apprentice, will confront the Fiend for the last time. A stunning conclusion to the acclaimed series!

Tom Ward has battled boggarts, ghasts, witches, dark gods, and the most terrifying creatures to roam the earth. He's allied with the witch assassin Grimalkin, with a powerful boggart, and with Alice . . . the young witch who is also his true love. And he has kept one step ahead of the Fiend, the most evil being in the world. Now he will vanquish the Fiend once and for all. But it will require a terrible sacrifice: not everyone Tom cares about will survive the final battle. The Last Apprentice series is soon to be a major motion picture, Seventh Son, starring Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, Djimon Hounsou, and Julianne Moore as Mother Malkin. It's a suspenseful thrill ride that's "spine-tingling" (Publishers Weekly) and "anything but tame" (Horn Book). But don't read it after dark!

Meet the Author

Joseph Delaney lives in Lancashire, England, right in the middle of boggart territory. His village has a boggart, called a hall knocker, which was laid to rest under the steps of a house near the church. Most of the places in The Last Apprentice series are based on real locations in Lancashire, and the inspiration behind the stories often comes from local ghost stories and legends.

Fury of the Seventh son was a great book.

I liked the book. The exciting action scenes had only short breaks in between and didn't stop the storyline. The book portrayed the characters well with lots of the developement that we have come to know throughout the series and a heart wrenching twist. The book manages to show the cruel hand of fate while displaying how we can change the world with our daily decisions. The thoughtful themes mixed in with the back to back action scenes and character struggles made for a fitting and well-written end of the series.

A very poor ending for an otherwise well written series. I was shocked at the lack of resolution that followed the final struggles that Tom faced; it seems as though all of the big, intellectual, coming of age questions that Tom explored in the previous books had no influence on how the end of this story concluded, which made for a dull, random and disappointing storyline. The repetitive, predictable action scenes became too numerous and very ill-conceived (perhaps in an attempt to cover up the lack of literary substance).
Now, all of this being said, I appreciated that the ending wasn't that of a comedy, rather, that of a shocking tragedy where the protagonist loses friends, family, and his one true love. It depicts in a very raw way the pain of loss, struggling with forced or unwanted changes, and shows the unique, intrinsic ability for humans to move on and continue striving to do what is right.
