Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
New York Times–bestselling funny gal Sandra Boynton gathers together a host of hilarious critters, delivering this "touch, skritch, and tickle" board book that'll have your fingers singing a happy tune. In six spreads of silly, smile-inducing artwork, the author invites readers to feel a cow's "Fuzzy fuzzy fuzzy" pink nose, run their hands over a groovy pig's "Smoooooooth. (Oh my.)" sunglasses and snout, touch a turkey's bumpy comb, and more. At the end, Boynton's cheery last spread asks whether "you want to start over with the fuzzy fuzzy guy," but a pair of chicks (in lift-the-flap eggs) quarrel over the answer. With a simple design, loaded with the author's kid-friendly humor, and textures that are cool and surprising, Fuzzy Fuzzy Fuzzy! will be a zippy hit with kids and a merry treat for anyone looking for a laff.
Publishers Weekly
Sandra Boynton's personable animals teach youngsters about textures as they beg to be touched in Fuzzy Fuzzy Fuzzy! A Touch, Skritch & Tickle Book. From a cow with tufty blue hair and a velvety pink nose, to a pig with shiny green sunglasses and a dog with "Rough/ rough/ rough" paw pads, these animals combine classic Boynton charm with a large touch-and-feel format. Children's Literature
Dorothy Kunhardt's 1940 Pat the Bunny was the original interactive book for little ones. It was a bestseller and is still in print. Naturally it has spawned many, many near-clones. Sandra Boynton has made a small industry of the style herself, creating her "Very Silly Boynton Board Book" series. This, of course, is the latest. Almost four times the size of its ancestor, it also contains perhaps a quarter of the words. It does, however, have the nicely tactile surfaces that babies enjoy. In this case, it contains a soft-nosed cow, a sandpaper-pawed dog, a mirrored-sunglass-wearing pig, a rough-wattle turkey and a soft-bellied duck. Boynton's illustrations are big and bright, and the board book is sturdy enough to survive an entire orphanage. But Pat the Bunny still has more charm. 2003, Little Simon, Ages 1 to 3.

Meet the Author

Sandra Boynton
Sandra Boynton

Sandra Boynton is a popular American humorist, songwriter, children's author and illustrator. Boynton has written and illustrated more than forty books for both children and adults, as well as over four thousand greeting cards, and four music albums. Although she does not license her characters to be redrawn or adapted, she has herself designed—for various companies—calendars, wallpaper, bedding, stationery, paper goods, clothing, jewelry, and plush toys.

Biography

In the 1980s, it was hard to enter a gift shop without seeing Sandra Boynton's name. Her humorous pen-and-watercolor cartoons of hippos, ewes, and her famous turkeys (you know, symbolizing the human ones in life who can get you down) were emblazoned on cards, mugs, stickers, stationery...and of course, her wonderful, wacky books, the first of which was 1979's Hippos Go Berserk! .

Boynton began her career as a greeting card illustrator with aspirations of theater directing; but having a family changed her focus, and she began devoting herself full-time to art. Her board books, filled with goofy animal illustrations and rhyming verse, are toddler staples. But their appeal to adults is undeniable, and she has also written a number of humor books for the general public.

Given the rhythmic, buoyant style of her writing, it was only natural that Boynton would become involved in companion music to her books. From the '90s on, several of her titles included accompanying CDs, culminating in the 2002 release of Philadelphia Chickens, a CD-book extravaganza written with composer Michael Ford and featuring musical performances by several high-profile stars.

Who knows what lies ahead for this irrepressible force of nature? If there's one thing Sandra Boynton has proved in the course of her remarkably diverse career, it's that she's not lost her capacity to surprise us. (Thank heavens!)

    A True Find

I ordered this book without seeing it...little did I know that it would be one of my son's favorite books!!! Simple pictures and text. The best part is the back cover where there are pictures of all the animals from the book. My son (10 months) loves to point at each animal and have us make the sounds! It never gets olds for him! :)

Give it a try for yourself

My son is almost 2 and loves all the Sandra Boynton books. This one is especially fun since he can feel the things on the page. The animals are just plain cute and he can identify them all. My son also likes just about anything that rhymes and Ms. Boynton has a flair for fun.

    Great Interactive Book!

Our 7 month old daughter can hardly wait for us to turn the page to touch the next texture. She understood just what she was supposed to touch on the first reading. It is fun to see her excitement when she sees the cover and reaches for the cow's fuzzy hair.

    Disappointing book

This book is by far a huge disappointment. As a big fan of the Sandra Boynton series (my daughter can't get enough of most of her books), I rushed to order online Fuzzy Fuzzy Fuzzy. When it arrived, I opened the box as fast as I could. I knew my daughter would love it - it was one of her birthday presents. She took one look at it, looked through the pages and then tossed it. I thought that maybe it was just her mood at the time, so I showed her the book at different points in the day. Again nothing. I do not recommend this book; there are several other Boynton books that are much better. Our favorites are But Not the Hippopotamus, Snuggle Puppy and the Going to Bed book. I must read each of those books at least 5 times a day. And she's had these books for several months now. So, while I do not recommend this book, I wouldn't give up on the rest of the Boynton series.
