Children's LiteratureThe ABC's of New Jersey history, art and culture are explored for the reader with short, lightly-rhymed passages and sidebars offering more detailed information. The first entry, "A is for arrowhead/carved by the Lenape" is illustrated with drawings of the Native Americans who found the area rich in natural hunting grounds and the waters abundant in seafood. "B is for Boardwalk down at the shore" because the original boardwalk was set up in Atlantic City by a hotel owner hoping to stop visitors from tracking sand into the lobby and rooms and New Jersey is still known for the boardwalks. This book joins the other alphabet books in presenting information in a manner appropriate to the reading ability and attention span of the young student. "A Garden Full of Facts" at the back of the book poses questions about New Jersey and many readers may be surprised at the diversity and history of this small, but populous, state. 2004, Sleeping Bear Press/Thomson Gale, Ages 6 to 9.
