Gabon: Intellectual Elites, Political Power, And The Decline Of Democracy.
Dr. Blanchard ONANGA NDJILA, an expert in American political institutions, the civil rights movement, and the Obama presidency, presents a stark yet impartial analysis of twenty-first-century Gabonese society, delving into the malaise plaguing the country. He critiques the Gabonese intellectual elite's complicity with the country's political ruling class, which has contributed to the nation's stagnation since independence. A key feature of this stagnation is the decline of Gabonese democracy, which is intricately tied to various manipulations of the Electoral Code and the Constitution. The author asserts that Gabon has lost its guiding models, leaving citizens devoid of strong social values and principles. It is likened to a jungle, ruled by the strongest, a land beleaguered by deep moral and spiritual decline. Negative values such as revenge, jealousy, exclusion, clientelism, tribalism, self-interest, corruption, and mediocrity have taken precedence. The feeling of community has waned, burdening younger generations with a challenging legacy. This book serves as Dr. Blanchard ONANGA NDJILA's urgent call for a collective awakening, imploring Gabonese champions of justice, peace, and equity to restore noble values and aspire toward a brighter future for Gabon.
