Overview

Forensic anthropologist Erica Braxton, Joshua’s daughter and a quadriplegic, downs a lethal barbituate in the opening scene of Gabriel’s Covenant. Forty-five minutes later Frau Schroder, a registered anesthetist in Zurich, pronounces her dead. Joshua could have stopped the killing . . . her assisted suicide. He chooses not to. Why? There is an answer. It's buried inside Joshua and becomes curiously tangled in the history of Gabriel’s Crossing, a rural town in central Oregon. Joshua and his lifelong friend, Norm MacAllaster quickly discover it's a Thornton Wilder, Grover’s Corners kind of place where the living and the dead are sometimes not remembered, for reasons buried deep within the collective conscience of one family, the Armstrongs. Following Joshua and Norm as they unwind the mystery behind why a mummified, nameless child was killed, is a chilling, heartfelt journey touching on the timeless fear people have of dying and the turmoil end-of-life circumstances present. Both the fear and turmoil felt by the principle characters is dramatically explored with deserved frankness, touching insight, humor, and empathy for their shared vulnerabilities.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon - Scott Williams
Where to begin? First, What a great read! Mr Watson has written a book engendering all the questions we avoid asking about death and dying, wrapped inside an engaging story of a man, his daughter, his best friend, his sheltie, Tas, and the ghostly presence of his deceased wife . . . Engaged from the first paragraph, this is perhaps one of best mysteries I've read in years . . . Cover to cover, I could not put it down.. Recommend it highly for anyone ready for a great journey.

Meet the Author

I’m the recent author of two novels and my passion as a writer is to tell gut wrenching stories about characters challenged with dilemmas and forced to make choices which lead them along paths most might consider immoral or unethical. That’s my niche as a writer. My storylines are never simple because my characters are complex and emotionally vulnerable. So, if what you’re looking for is a simple read, you might want to try another selection. But if you like thought provoking stories with entertaining twists and turns, give my books a try.
My first novel, Leaving the Bones Behind, presents readers with a story within a story. One one level, it’s about a man struggling against Alzheimer’s for enough time to define the legacy he wants to leave his children. Within that context it’s also a Michael Crichton-like medical mystery thriller based on science yet centered in heartfelt humanity.
My most recent work is Gabriel's Covenant. It will be introduced on Amazon this fall(2011). The book is about five days in the life of Joshua Braxton and his journey to the Thornton Wilder-like town of Gabriel’s Crossing. Traveling in Augustus, his 39 Chev, with his lifelong pal Norm, and his unforgettable dog,Tasman, to the rural central Oregon town of Gabriel’s Crossing, will carry you to a place where death with dignity is an act that pushes the human conscience to its limit.
