Book 2 of the Evan Gabriel Science Fiction Adventure Trilogy

***** Voted Reviewer's Choice 2011 by The Kindle Book Review: "A Sci-Fi Rumble in the Jungle" Five Stars

Gabriel has always been haunted by his past. Now he must face his past once again.

On the far-off icebound planet of Poliahu, North American Federation Navy Commander Evan Gabriel suffered the loss of several team members in order to free a native species and save his brother. Now he is being called away on a new mission by a friend in trouble, and by a name from his distant past. He and his surviving team must again travel across the galaxy, this time to the world where he lost his naval command, and his original team, so many years ago: Eden.

Gabriel will face three distinct threats on Eden: the well-armed terrorist group that has been raiding Eden City, the deadly flora and fauna of the planet itself, and perhaps most ominously, his own haunting memories of his past.

Gabriel's Return continues the epic science fiction adventure trilogy with characters new and old, advanced weapons and technology, devious political intrigue on the moon and Mars, and deadly jungle combat on the unique planet of Eden.

REVIEWS OF GABRIEL'S RETURN

"Loaded with more than enough hi-tech action, but Umstead finds balance and depth by presenting a more complex plot and delves much deeper into his characters... a five-star read" - Tom Clementson, The Kindle Book Review

"You feel as if you are trekking through the jungle on Eden. This series is fantastic and I highly recommend this to all." - Katie Turner, The Kindle Book Review

"The world building accomplished by the author is exceptional. The descriptions of the tactics and equipment used within the story line is spot on."

"The action in this book rocks, complete with super-cool weapons and technology. Umstead takes a complex cast and gives them each a distinct personality that makes the team dynamic just great."

Meet the Author

Steve Umstead has been the owner of a Caribbean & Mexico travel company for the past ten years, but never forgot his lifelong dream of becoming an author. After a successful stab at National Novel Writing Month, he decided to pursue his dream more vigorously…but hasn’t given up the traveling.

Steve lives in scenic (tongue-in-cheek) New Jersey with his wife, two kids, and several bookshelves full of other authors’ science fiction novels. Gabriel’s Redemption was his debut novel, published in February of 2011; Gabriel’s Return, the second in the trilogy, launched in August; the finale, Gabriel’s Revenge, book 3, hit the virtual shelves in December.

I have read books1 and 2 and found them exciting. This is my first time reading SciFi. I discontinued my TV service and picked reading. Boy oh boy, I hit the jackpot with this series. Thank you Steve Umstead for writing a book a 60 year old woman can enjoy. This series would make an excellent triology for the movies.

No let down here. I really enjoy the first one in this series. The second one is even better. This time we go back to Eden where the first time, Evan had one of his worst defeats. You learn what happen and how it effects this mission. Can't wait to read the third book. (I am already on it.) Check out his list of books right away. He had a freebie for Evan Gabriel fans.

Excellent SCI-FI adventure in my eyes, but I enjoy space drama. No synopsis on my part; read the book for your own pleasure.

I enjoyed reading the first 2 books in this series. I bought the last book but haven't read it yet. Looking forward to finding out how everything ends.

I highly recommend this to anyone who likes military sci-fi. I enjoyed the character development, the flow of the book. I did not find anyplace where I felt that short-cuts where taken. This is the second in a trilogy. I will be looking for other books written by Umstead.

Not just for SciFi fans.  In regards to low reviews from uber nerds, what this book lacks is what makes it fun to read. There is no incessant explaining to do about hundreds of different creatures, worlds, races, technology or factions. I think this series has the correct amount to appeal to a larger audience, while remaining fun and interesting to read to all but the most elite uber nerd. It's a bargain, give it a shot.

Quick reading space marine series. No really imaginative elements with regards to plot, alien worlds, characters, or technology. Given the dearth of really good current science fiction, this is entertaining.

He's really a kindhearted man, given the chance. It's just that Gabriel is rarely, if ever, given the chance. Other authors deal with the antagonisms of politics like a fancy fencing match. Mr Powers, has his main character deal with politics like a bull in a china shop. Actually since Gabriel is the leader of and elite and VERY efficient fighting unit it more like the running of the bulls and everyone best stand aside or lose an arm, a leg or some other cherished body part. Gabriel has a good heart but he is also constitutionally unable to suffer fools, traitors or tyrants. This whole series is a good read that I highly recommend.

Vivid and grpahically exciting. Causes the imagination to create the movie in your mind. Hoping that the ending is just as good, but this is superb.

his writing is up there with John Ringo with out the politics.

Imaginative, involving, and infectious. A wild nightmare ride through some of Gabriel's skeletons.....though Eden is nothing like your ordinary "closet"....and OH, does he clean house nicely!

Evan Gabriel is a heroes hero. Complicated, focused, and a good leader. Can't wait to read the next one.
