Overview

Have you ever heard of bird diapers?

Interested in a talking toilet paper dispenser?

What about a motorized ice cream cone?

Slippers with built-in headlights?

Looking for a Kosher Lamp?

These aren’t gag gadgets from some lame late night talk show skit. They are actual, real products that you can buy today. Maybe you already have?

Americans love their gadgets—and Gadget Nation takes you behind the scenes and introduces you to the men and women who have spent countless hours and money, in some cases cashing in their 401(k), trying to turn their gadget idea into a gadget bonanza.

Steve Greenberg, dubbed The Innovation Insider, travels the country seeking out clever offbeat new products. His journey through the underbelly of American invention has brought him face to face with hundreds of garage inventors. Steve has spent years exploring and observing this often bizarre slice of Americana. Featuring more than 100 quirky innovations from garage inventors across the nation, this visual showcase captures America’s can-do spirit and creative energy.

Sure, there are some scary examples of gadgets that have gone terribly wrong, but others will amaze you, and still others will make you laugh.

One fascinating aspect of each story is learning which inventors have achieved some degree of financial success. In this world, logic doesn’t enter into the equation. A product that most people might look at and think, “Who needs that?” might be raking in millions and yet another product that seems truly ingenious might be drowning in red ink.

Sure, we all love our gadgets—and after reading Gadget Nation, you will start developing a deep affection for the inventors behind those gadgets.

What an amusing book with great ideas!!

Thumbs up for Steve Greenberg! I just bought your book last night and it is hilarious!! My son and I went to dinner last night and while we were waiting for our order, we were going through the book. Well, we had a grand old time looking at the kool inventions and laughing hysterically. At one point, it took my son a few minutes to actually tell me what he thought about one of the inventions because he was laughing so hard, and what a great idea it was. Thanks for bringing some amusement and some fun ideas into this rough world we now live in.

    The Perfect Gift

I gave the book to my mom for Mother's Day, it was Perfect! My mom was surprised and thankful for the easy-to-read book about innovative products. What was even more enjoyable, however, was the ensuing discussion and laughter as the book was passed around the table. I look forward to talking with my mom about which products she liked the best and why. I recommend this book.

    FASCINATING

I bought this book for my uncle because he likes technological gadgets but read it before I gave it to him. I loved it. I usually don't like non-fiction but this was fun to read and I'm getting a copy for myself and my son.

    The Heart of a Nation

Steve Greenberg's book is funny, informative and--this part surprised me--quite touching. The drive, imagination and optimism of these inventors, wacky though some may be, form the heart of what makes America, and the human being, so great. Can't wait for the author's next book.

Gadget Nation, a perfect name and a great book!

Steve Greenberg has sucessfully caputred the trials and tribulations of an Inventor. It's not easy, but it can be rewarding, Steve portrays. The Inventor is a special breed of cat, an optimist with a can do attitude, creating, marketing, and trying to sell their invention, what a Brotherhood. Gadget Nation, a perfect name and a great book!

    Another Winner from Steve

I originally bought the book because Steve has included my invention in it and I was excited to read his write-up about my company and product, but I found myself reading about each of the other inventions with curiosity and excitement. Steve did a wonderful job of creating a book that is not only informative but so interesting that I caught myself reading aloud to friends and family with my traditional southern slang of 'get this' as the intro. Thanks for a great new book Steve!
