Overview

Miller (environmental science, policy, and management; U. of California at Berkeley) presents the new edition of a text that originated from his teaching of a course on the ethical implications of molecular biology. He characterizes the work as a primer on the environmental, philosophical, economic, and ethical connections between ecological health and human well being. In attempting to construct a moral philosophy that will aid humans in sustainable economic and resource systems, he rejects the scientific tendency towards biological determinism and fears the technological possibilities inherent in advances in molecular biology.
