When a special birthday gift arrived from Uncle Hershel, Gail was thrilled. It was her very own guitar. Now she could play anytime she wanted. When Nora Nanny moved in next door, the two animals became very good friends. Gail had been having so much fun with her new friend, she had neglected her guitar playing, so one morning bright and early she began to practice her music. Nora loved to sleep in most mornings, so when the loud music began, she became angrier and angrier. She stomped over to Gail’s house. Gail had not realized Nora slept late each morning and apologized to her new friend. Nora realized she had gotten angry without discussing how she felt first. She cooled off and the two hugged and enjoyed Gail’s music together. Gail was careful from then on to be sure Nora was awake before she began to play her music.
This is book nine of thirty-one books in the First Phonics series by Betty Ward Cain. It helps a student learn the sound of a hard “G.” This program has been used in the classroom for many years with a lot of success in teaching kids to read.

About the Author

Betty Ward Cain is a published author, musician and retired teacher. She is listed in the Cambridge who’s who. Mrs. Cain taught kindergarten students for 30 years. She comes from a long line of ministers, musicians, teachers and song writers. Mrs. Cain grew up in a minister’s home. Her father (Rev. T. N. Ward) and grandfather (Rev. L. M. Justice) were Church of God ministers. She desires to pass on her Christian heritage and bring the values she learned during her childhood to children today. The author became a Christian when she was only 5 years old. (You can read about her experience in her Shy Sharon chapter book.) She has spent most of her life in some type of ministry as a Sunday School teacher, soloist, choir member, children’s choir director, vacation Bible school teacher, and has held most positions in her church.

Mrs. Cain began writing several years before she retired from teaching. After taking a class at Lee University with Dr. Cliff Schimmels, she began her career in writing. Dr. Schimmels was published many times in his lifetime. After turning in a writing assignment in his class, Dr. Schimmels told her she should share her gifts with others. She had never believed in her abilities until he gave her the encouragement she needed.

Mrs. Cain lives with her husband, Jay, in Cleveland, TN. They have one son, Jeremy, who has three children. The delight of Mrs. Cain’s life is her three grandchildren. Madelin is a beautiful Christian young woman who loves God. Madelin plays the guitar and sings in church. Sophie has a great zest for life. She is intelligent and observant and loves people. She plays the guitar as well. Sammy is highly intelligent and loving. He loves life and loves people. He is the clown of the family. He loves to make others laugh, especially his grandmother.
