Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The purpose of this set is to educate those with neurological disorders on their conditions, supplementing, rather than replacing, physician consultation. An international set of clinicians, academics, and health writers provides almost 400 alphabetically arranged articles that offer information on disorders and diseases, drugs used to treat them, and prognosis. Conditions and symptoms addressed include the familiar—headache, back pain, Alzheimer's disease—but also less well-known topics such as Devic syndrome, Pick's disease, and stiff person syndrome. Names of conditions that have changed are indicated in red. Definitions of key terms used in each article are provided at the essay's conclusion to aid reader comprehension, as are resources for further reading, including books, periodicals, organizations, and helpful websites. Useful and varied graphics and photographs are interspersed throughout the set, illustrating everything from acupuncture points on the body to a patient receiving a CT scan. The index and glossary are located in the second volume only. VERDICT This is an informative set for readers seeking a better understanding of complex conditions and their treatments.—Christine Sharbrough, Derry P.L., NH
