Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Since 1984, Galloway's Book on Running has been pleasing readers. But its phenomenal word-of-mouth success hasn't deterred author Jeff Galloway from searching for improvements. In response to reader suggestions and medical advances, the second edition features a sharpened text that includes new material on topics ranging from fat burning to running apparel.
Kick!
...[D]oes offer some cursory advice for new runners, [but] the heart of this no-nonsense book is about building mileage and training for races....We at Kick! recommend this book particularly for runners interested in developing a serious, goal-oriented running program.

    Never Wrong

I used Jeff's original edition when I started running 20 years ago. To this date, I have found nothing wrong. If I do what Jeff recommends, I'll run like the book says. If I don't follow Jeff's advice, I'll have the injury the book says. From age 30 to age 50, this book has been my trainer, and will be until the next edition.

    AWESOME

This book is excellent. Not only are there great chapters on training conditioning and starting like most running books, it also has a chapter on running with outtraining and creating a winning mindset. This book allowed me to teach myself to have the ability to go beyond what my body wanted. Things like invisioning yourself winning, thinking up ways to stop your left brain (the part whihc wants you to stop running) from taking over, and imaginiing a lasso bringing in runners as they pass you are great ideas. It also tells the story of a man who won the 800m in the Olympics even though his leg was injured. He wanted it that bad. This is a great book for all runners. It tells everything. A must have

    Galloway's Book is right on.

Jeff Galloway's book on running is a very practical guide that will help any level of runner to improve. His training schedules fit right in with a working man's time frame. The accuracy of the section for predicting race times is so close you'd think he knew you personally! By following his advice 'not common' to all of the other books so called 'conventions' you can meet and exceed your own goals. I give tons of credit to Jeff for his training program that helped me go from no running at all to a first Marathon of 2:49:45. Of course I worked very hard for 6 months, but I had no doubts that this was the right program for me!
